Description

The Gent S4T-711 is a dual optical and heat detector that tests its own sensing elements. It reads smoke at two angles and measures heat with a thermistor. The panel compares the optical readings to help distinguish smoke from some dust and steam. Self-test uses aerosol to test both optical channels and warms the heat element to check its response. Part of the S-Quad Self-Test range for Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus, this white detector takes power from the loop and fits an S4-700 base. A fan clears the test aerosol through the smoke entry points. Testing uses the CLSS app, a gateway and a Self-Test licence.

The S4T-711 is the dual optical and heat multi-sensor model in the Gent S-Quad Self-Test range. Two transmitting LEDs and an infrared receiver measure smoke at two angles within one optical chamber. The panel compares the readings as a ratio, helping it distinguish certain smoke aerosols from dust or steam. The extended optical measuring range allows use where dust or steam occurs occasionally. A separate thermistor provides heat sensing.

Optical self-test generates paraffin aerosol and moves it into the chamber with a variable-speed fan. Readings from both optical channels are checked. The fan then increases airflow to clear the aerosol through the smoke entry points, with the panel checking the decline in readings and their return to ambient levels. Heat self-test warms the thermistor and checks its thermal response.

The S4T range includes an integral short-circuit isolator and a red fire indicator. The indicator can also be configured for periodic operation flashes across the system. The panel regularly monitors detector operation and reports a fault if a monitored function fails. With the base lock engaged, a tool is needed to release the detector.

The head fits the S4-700 base, which requires a metal back box. Use screened two-core fire-rated loop cable with conductors from 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and maintain earth continuity. Supplied with one detector head and one orange dust cover. The cover protects the detector during building work and must be removed before commissioning. The S4T range has IP21C housings measuring 117 mm in diameter and 63 mm high, increasing to 70 mm with the standard base.

The S-Quad Self-Test range operates on Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus systems with compatible firmware, SD-card MCC or MCB hardware and a VIGPLUS-LPC-EN loop card. Self-test requires a CLSS gateway for each network domain, the CLSS mobile app and an active Self-Test licence. Run testing with the panel in Service mode. Configure the system with Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.40 or later, and calculate the loop load and standby requirement with the Battery Standby and Loop Load Calculator.

FAQs

What does dual optical sensing add to the S4T-711?

The S4T-711 measures smoke at two optical angles using two transmitting LEDs and an infrared receiver in one chamber. The panel compares the readings as a ratio to help distinguish certain smoke aerosols from dust or steam. Its extended measuring range supports locations where dust or steam is occasionally present. A thermistor provides the separate heat reading. This model has sensing only; the S4T-771-S adds a tone sounder to the dual optical and heat combination.

Does Self-Test check both optical channels on the S4T-711?

Yes. During optical self-test, aerosol enters the S4T-711 chamber and the readings from both optical channels are verified. The fan then increases airflow to clear the aerosol through the smoke entry points. The panel checks that the readings decrease and return to ambient levels before the test passes. The heat element is tested separately by warming the thermistor and checking its response. Testing uses the CLSS app and requires an active Self-Test licence and a gateway connection.

How is the S4T-711 detection response configured?

The S4T-711 offers states 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12. Its factory setting is state 0, combining normal optical sensitivity with A1 heat detection. The panel processes forward and backward optical readings along with the heat channel using the selected state. The two-angle optical arrangement helps discriminate between certain aerosols, including smoke, dust and steam. There is no integral sounder or VAD on this model; those functions have separate S4T variants.

How is the S4T-711 mounted and protected during installation?

The white S4T-711 plugs into an S4-700 base mounted on a metal back box. The supplied dust cover protects the sensing chamber from building dust and must be removed before commissioning. The S4T range uses an ABS outer housing with IP21C protection. Its head dimensions are 117 mm diameter by 63 mm height, rising to 70 mm with the standard base. The loop requires screened two-core fire-rated cable with conductors between 1.5 and 2.5 mm².

Can the S4T-711 be used on a Nano panel?

No. The S4T-711 is part of the Self-Test range supported by Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus, with compatible firmware and a VIGPLUS-LPC-EN loop card. The system also needs the supported SD-card MCC or MCB hardware. Sensor self-test is run from the CLSS app with a gateway for the network domain and an active Self-Test licence. The detector receives power from the loop and fits an S4-700 base. Calculate loop loading and standby capacity for the complete installation.
