System Sensor Interface Enclosure (Small) Plastic Previously listed as S4-34493

The M200E-SMB is the plastic surface mounting box System Sensor supplies for its M200 series addressable input and output modules. Its datasheet for that family covers the M200XE short circuit isolator, the M201E single output module, the M210E single input module, the M210E-CZ conventional zone module, the M220E dual input module and the M221E dual input single output module, and lists this box first among their accessories. Gent lists the same box in its loop powered interface order codes, under interface housings and mounting accessories, as the small plastic surface mount interface enclosure, and Honeywell's own interface housings listing records that it was previously listed as S4-34493. That old code still appears in the title on this page because specifications and drawings written years ago still call for it.

The box is plastic, and measures 139mm wide, 134mm high and 40mm deep. Those figures come from two manufacturers' documents four years apart, System Sensor's own dimensioned drawing and Gent's dimensions block, and they agree to the millimetre. At 40mm it is shallower than either of the Gent enclosures that carry a stated depth, the 50mm S4-34492 and the 77mm S4-34490. No knockouts are stated for this order code. System Sensor lists a separate code, the M200E-SMB-KO, as the surface mount box with 20mm knockouts, so where a punched entry of a set size is required it is that code to order rather than this one.

System Sensor publishes an ingress figure for the module in this box rather than for the box on its own. Every module in the M200 family is rated IP30 by itself and IP50 fitted in the M200E-SMB, and that row is repeated against each module in its datasheet. Read it as an assembly rating: it describes a System Sensor M200 module in this enclosure, and no rating is published for the empty box. The cover earns its place in maintenance as well. System Sensor's stated reason for the design is that both the module's LEDs and its switches can be seen without taking the cover off the surface mounting box, so a technician can read the tri-colour status indication and check the set address without opening anything.

Mounting is a choice rather than an obligation. System Sensor describes the M200 series as mountable in a wall box, on a DIN rail or within any type of enclosure, with the address switch visible and accessible whichever route is chosen, and lists a DIN rail mounting clip and a panel mounting clip as separate accessories beside this box. Where a module does have to be housed on its own, on the surface, the M200E-SMB is the cost-effective choice, and for a single S4-34410 or S4-34420 it is the housing we recommend from our own experience on Gent work rather than from any manufacturer fit statement. An S4-34450 will go in one as well, though the cabling gets tight once all four channels are wired, so allow for that before committing to it. Gent's own order codes put it among the interface housings and mounting accessories for its loop powered interface range. Where a metal enclosure is preferred, the small S4-34492 with its 20mm and 25mm knockouts is our usual recommendation; the large plastic S4-34490 is more box than a single module needs and suits a fully wired four channel unit; and the S4-34496 houses six interfaces at one position. The box is always a separate line on the order from the module.
