Description
The Gent S3-CONTROL is a handheld infrared remote for adjusting S-Cubed sounder volume, including speech volume on voice models. Also called HandiLink, it stores the changed settings in the device. It works from up to 3m away when aimed at the thin section at the bottom of the unit. Keep that area free of paint and anything that could block the signal. For an addressable installation, put the panel in Test mode before making an adjustment, then save the new volume at the panel. The remote has an attached key ring and comes with two 12V alkaline batteries: one for use and one spare.
The Gent S3-CONTROL, also called HandiLink, adjusts the volume of S-Cubed Mark 3 sounders and the speech volume of voice models. It stores changed settings in the device. The controls are Power, function, plus and minus, with a red LED to show their state.

The Gent S3-CONTROL, also called HandiLink, adjusts the volume of S-Cubed Mark 3 sounders and the speech volume of voice models. It stores changed settings in the device. The controls are Power, function, plus and minus, with a red LED to show their state.
For addressable S-Cubed sounders, put the panel in Test mode before using the remote. Tap Power to switch it on. In volume mode the LED gives one flash per two-second cycle; the tone or speech function gives two. Use plus or minus to change the volume. To store the setting in the sounder, hold Power until the sound briefly pauses, then release it. The LED stays lit while Power is held and turns off on release. Save the new volume at the panel as well.
Aim at the thin section near the bottom of the sounder, from no more than 3m away. This area must remain free of paint and obstructions. The device needs its TOP marking facing upwards, with shelves and other objects clear of the infrared path. The normal minimum volume setting is 65 dBA at 1m. A fitted beacon flashes rapidly during volume adjustment.
The remote uses one 12V alkaline battery of type GP23A, MN21 or VR22. Two batteries and an attached key ring are included. Typical battery life is about a year, depending on use; fitting a fresh battery produces four LED flashes. To open the remote, turn a terminal screwdriver in the gap at the top of the case and lift off the cover. When replacing a battery, remove the old one before holding Power until the LED goes out. Fit the replacement with the correct polarity, seat the bottom of the cover and clip the top shut. Keep the remote dry.

FAQs
Does the panel need to be in Test mode to use the S3-CONTROL?
For an addressable S-Cubed installation, put the panel in Test mode before adjusting the sounder with the remote. Aim at the thin section at the bottom of the device and use the plus or minus key in volume mode. Hold Power until the sound briefly pauses to store the changed setting in the unit, then release it. Save the new volume at the panel afterwards. The remote also adjusts speech volume on voice models.
What does the S3-CONTROL adjust on an S-Cubed sounder?
The remote adjusts tone volume on S-Cubed sounders and speech volume on voice models. It works at distances up to 3m and stores changed settings in the device. On addressable installations, put the panel in Test mode before making the adjustment and save the new volume at the panel afterwards. In volume mode, the red LED gives one flash per two-second cycle. The plus key raises the volume and the minus key lowers it.
What batteries does the S3-CONTROL use?
The remote runs on one 12V alkaline battery of type GP23A, MN21 or VR22. It comes with an attached key ring and two batteries, so one is available as a spare. Typical life is about a year, depending on how often the remote is used. For replacement, remove the old battery before holding Power until the red LED goes out. Fit the fresh battery with the correct polarity. Four LED flashes acknowledge the new battery before the case is closed.
Where should I aim the S3-CONTROL?
Aim at the thin section near the bottom of the S-Cubed unit from no more than 3m away. Keep this receiving area free of paint, and leave a clear infrared path between the remote and the device. The sounder should be mounted with its TOP marking facing upwards; shelves and other objects must not obstruct the signal. In volume mode, the remote's red LED gives one flash per two-second cycle, and the plus and minus keys change the level.
Can other infrared equipment activate S-Cubed devices during a walk test?
Test mode enables the infrared receivers in S-Cubed devices. Infrared signals from nearby equipment can then trigger sound or flashing without someone using an S3-CONTROL. On Vigilon, Vigilon Plus, Compact and Compact Plus systems, assigning the S-Cubed devices to zone 128 and limiting the walk test to zones 1 to 127 avoids this behaviour. The remote's normal volume adjustment still uses Test mode, with the new volume saved at the panel after the change.
