The S3-S-VAD-HPR-R is the red bodied tone sounder with a High Power red visual alarm device in Gent's S-Cubed Mark 3 range. It is loop powered and compatible with Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano systems. It provides tone alarms without spoken messages.

S-Cubed sounders provide three LPCB approved signals: an intermittent 970Hz tone at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz tones at 2Hz, and a continuous 970Hz tone. Each tone frequency has a tolerance of +/-10%. The range sounder rating is 103dB(A) +/-3dB, measured at 90 degrees and 1m.

The High Power red VAD coverage is High: W-6.7-14, 1313 cubic metres; Medium: W-6.5-12.5, 1015 cubic metres; Low: W-5-9.5, 451 cubic metres. Coverage requires compliant operation, compatible panel software, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. For EN Vigilon 4-loop and 4-6-loop panels, EN 54-23 coverage requires MCC V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. For EN Vigilon Compact, it requires MCB V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. On Nano, MCB V3.12 or later and LP V1.08 or later support Low Power coverage only. The S-Cubed VAD flash interval is two seconds. Maximum VAD loop current and power are 18mA and 630mW at High Power, 14mA and 490mW at Medium Power, and 8mA and 280mW at Low Power. Combined sounder/VAD maxima at High, Medium and Low are 23mA, 19mA and 13mA for Turbo, or 21mA, 17mA and 11mA for Non Turbo.

The indoor S-Cubed range uses a 35V to 48V loop supply and loop in/out terminals 01, L1, 02 and L2; the loop screen connects to the metal box earth. The S3-S-VAD-HPR-R has an integral short circuit isolator meeting EN 54-17. The indoor range is rated IP 21 for internal wall positions. Its body and lens are polycarbonate and the base is ABS. The indoor S-Cubed range has a 112mm square face and projects 90mm on the standard base or 75mm on an optional shallow base. The S3-BASE-SR shallow base matches this red body and comes in packs of five. Allow at least 10cm below the ceiling when fitting a shallow base so that the locking screw remains accessible. Keep the TOP mark facing upwards and the cable tails within 10cm. The base must remain surface mounted and the enclosure unpainted.

Changes to VAD settings on site use the Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.32 or later with compatible loop software. The Nano Commissioning Tool is V3.0 or later. The device remains compatible with earlier panel software; certified coverage depends on the panel and loop versions above. For S-Cubed sounders, the S3-CONTROL infrared remote selects tone and volume from up to 3m away while the panel is in test mode. Hold the remote's power button to store the device settings. After a volume adjustment, save the new level at the panel. S-Cubed sounders and visual alarm devices synchronise across all loops of one panel; synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.

FAQs

What is the difference between the S3-S-VAD-HPR-R and the S3-V-VAD-HPR-R?

Both models combine a High Power red beacon with a red body and an integral short circuit isolator. The S3-S-VAD-HPR-R provides three alarm tones without spoken messages. The S3-V-VAD-HPR-R adds recorded speech and a bell tone. Both offer High, Medium and Low beacon settings, with the same EN 54-23 coverage categories for each setting. Certified coverage requires compliant operation and compatible software. The S3-S-VAD-HPR-R provides tone alarms, while the S3-V-VAD-HPR-R provides the additional spoken alarm messages.

How does the S3-S-VAD-HPR-R flash, and how are tone and volume set?

The beacon flashes every two seconds, or 0.5Hz. Its three alarm tones are intermittent 970Hz at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz at 2Hz, and continuous 970Hz. Across the S-Cubed sounder range, tone and volume can be adjusted with the commissioning tool or S3-CONTROL infrared remote. Remote adjustment requires the panel to be in test mode and has a maximum range of 3m. Save the adjusted volume at the panel. This model combines the tone sounder, beacon and integral short circuit isolator.

What coverage does it give on a Gent Nano, or on older panel software?

On Nano, the beacon operates at Low Power, with EN 54-23 category W-5-9.5 and 451 cubic metres of coverage. Nano requires MCB V3.12 or later and LP V1.08 or later. Certified coverage on EN Vigilon four-loop, Compact and four-to-six-loop panels requires MCC or MCB V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. Coverage requires compliant operation, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. The device remains compatible with earlier panel software.

How many can I put on one loop?

The approximate maximum quantities for S-Cubed High Power sounder and VAD devices are 38 at High Power, 47 at Medium Power and 72 at Low Power, dependent on loop load. Maximum beacon currents are 18mA, 14mA and 8mA at those respective settings. The sounder maximum is 5mA for Turbo or 3mA for Non Turbo. Use the Gent Battery Standby and Loop Load Calculator for system design. The selected beacon setting changes both coverage and maximum current.

Which base does it use, and what is the S3-BASE-SR for?

The S3-BASE-SR is the optional red shallow base, available in packs of five. Indoor S-Cubed devices project 90mm with the standard deep base or 75mm with the shallow base. Across the indoor S-Cubed VAD range, weight including the base is 293g with the deep base and 271g with the shallow base. The shallow base replaces the deep base for a lower profile. Keep it at least 10cm below the ceiling so that the locking screw remains accessible.
