The S3-S-VAD-LPR-R is the red bodied tone sounder with a Standard Power red visual alarm device in Gent's S-Cubed Mark 3 range. It is loop powered and compatible with Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano systems. It provides tone alarms without spoken messages.
S-Cubed sounders provide three LPCB approved signals: an intermittent 970Hz tone at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz tones at 2Hz, and a continuous 970Hz tone. Each tone frequency has a tolerance of +/-10%. The range sounder rating is 103dB(A) +/-3dB, measured at 90 degrees and 1m.
The Standard Power red VAD coverage is W-3-8.5, 216 cubic metres. Coverage requires compliant operation, compatible panel software, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. For EN Vigilon 4-loop and 4-6-loop panels, EN 54-23 coverage requires MCC V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. For EN Vigilon Compact, it requires MCB V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. On Nano, MCB V3.12 or later and LP V1.08 or later support the Standard Power VAD coverage. The S-Cubed VAD flash interval is two seconds. Maximum loop current and power for the Standard Power VAD are 8mA and 280mW. Maximum sounder current and power for Turbo are 5mA and 175mW; the combined maximum is 13mA and 455mW.
The indoor S-Cubed range uses a 35V to 48V loop supply and loop in/out terminals 01, L1, 02 and L2; the loop screen connects to the metal box earth. The S3-S-VAD-LPR-R has an integral short circuit isolator meeting EN 54-17. The indoor range is rated IP 21 for internal wall positions. Its body and lens are polycarbonate and the base is ABS. The indoor S-Cubed range has a 112mm square face and projects 90mm on the standard base or 75mm on an optional shallow base. The S3-BASE-SR shallow base matches this red body and comes in packs of five. Allow at least 10cm below the ceiling when fitting a shallow base so that the locking screw remains accessible. Keep the TOP mark facing upwards and the cable tails within 10cm. The base must remain surface mounted and the enclosure unpainted.
Changes to VAD settings on site use the Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.32 or later with compatible loop software. The Nano Commissioning Tool is V3.0 or later. The device remains compatible with earlier panel software; certified coverage depends on the panel and loop versions above. For S-Cubed sounders, the S3-CONTROL infrared remote selects tone and volume from up to 3m away while the panel is in test mode. Hold the remote's power button to store the device settings. After a volume adjustment, save the new level at the panel. S-Cubed sounders and visual alarm devices synchronise across all loops of one panel; synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.

FAQs
What is the difference between the S3-S-VAD-LPR-R and the S3-S-VAD-HPR-R?
This Standard Power model has one EN 54-23 category: W-3-8.5, covering 216 cubic metres. The High Power S3-S-VAD-HPR-R offers three settings: W-6.7-14 and 1313 cubic metres at High, W-6.5-12.5 and 1015 at Medium, and W-5-9.5 and 451 at Low. Both combine a tone sounder with a red beacon and red body. Coverage requires compliant operation, compatible software, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. The Standard Power model has no higher setting.
How does the S3-S-VAD-LPR-R flash, and how are tone and volume set?
The beacon flashes every two seconds, or 0.5Hz. Its three alarm tones are intermittent 970Hz at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz at 2Hz, and continuous 970Hz. Across the S-Cubed sounder range, tone and volume can be adjusted with the commissioning tool or S3-CONTROL infrared remote. Remote adjustment requires the panel to be in test mode and has a maximum range of 3m. Save the adjusted volume at the panel. This model combines the tone sounder, beacon and integral short circuit isolator.
Does the S3-S-VAD-LPR-R play spoken messages?
This model provides alarm tones without spoken messages. Its three signals are intermittent 970Hz at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz at 2Hz, and continuous 970Hz. The S in its part code identifies the tone sounder; voice sounders use V in that position. The S3-V-VAD-HPR-R combines spoken messages with a High Power red beacon and red body. This S3-S-VAD-LPR-R instead combines its three tones with a Standard Power red beacon and has one EN 54-23 coverage setting.
How much loop current does the S3-S-VAD-LPR-R draw?
The maximum currents are 8mA for the beacon alone, 5mA for the sounder for Turbo, and 13mA for the beacon and sounder together. The corresponding maximum powers are 280mW, 175mW and 455mW. These values apply to the Standard Power sounder and VAD combination. S-Cubed Mark 3 devices use a loop supply of 35V to 48V. Use the Gent Battery Standby and Loop Load Calculator for system design. The S3-S-VAD-LPR-R also has an integral short circuit isolator meeting EN 54-17.
Can the S3-S-VAD-LPR-R be fitted on a lower profile base?
Supplied with a matching red standard base and one screw fitted in the base. The optional S3-BASE-SR shallow base is red and comes in packs of five. It replaces the deep base to reduce the projection from the wall. Indoor S-Cubed devices have a 112mm square face and project 90mm with the standard base or 75mm with the shallow base. Keep a shallow base at least 10cm below the ceiling so the locking screw remains accessible. The S-Cubed installation arrangement also limits the tail wires to a maximum length of 10cm.
