Description

The Gent S3EP-V-VAD-HPR-R is an IP66 voice sounder with a High Power red visual alarm device for outdoor and harsh indoor areas. It takes power from a Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus or Nano device loop and has a short circuit isolator. Its red body has a clear lens with a red flash once every two seconds. High Power provides EN 54-23 category W-6.7-14 and 1313 cubic metres of coverage in compliant VAD mode on compatible panel software. Nano runs at Low Power only. Sounders and VADs synchronise across all loops of one panel. The supplied front and back box include a fitted gasket and earth continuity strap, with no alternative bases.

The Gent S3EP-V-VAD-HPR-R combines a voice sounder with a High Power red VAD and belongs to the S-Cubed Mark 3 Environmentally Protected range. It has a red body and a red flash behind a clear lens. The IP66 enclosure suits outdoor positions and harsh indoor areas. The unit connects to Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano device loops and has an integral short circuit isolator.

S-Cubed Mark 3 EP sounders provide three tones: intermittent 970Hz at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz at 2Hz, and continuous 970Hz. Frequency tolerance is plus or minus 10 per cent. Sounder output across the range is 103dB(A), plus or minus 3dB, at 90 degrees and 1m. Voice models provide four spoken messages and a bell tone. The female messages are evacuation, await instructions and test; the male message is fire evacuation. EN 54-3 Annex C approval covers the await-instructions message with Signal 1 and the male evacuation message with Signal 2. The message and attention-tone period is 10 seconds by default and adjustable up to 30 seconds. Audio and bell storage is up to 20 seconds.

Red VAD coverage is W-6.7-14 and 1313 cubic metres at High Power, W-6.5-12.5 and 1015 cubic metres at Medium Power, and W-5-9.5 and 451 cubic metres at Low Power. In the wall-mounting category W, the first number is the maximum mounting height and the second is the maximum width and length, in metres. The minimum mounting height is 2.4m; coverage is based on a minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 Lux. Certified coverage requires compliant VAD mode and compatible panel software. Position VADs to CoP 0001, taking ambient light into account. The flash interval is two seconds. Sounders and VADs synchronise across all loops of one panel, but not between networked panels.

Operating voltage for the S-Cubed Mark 3 EP range is 35V to 48V. Maximum VAD current for the range is 18mA at High Power, 14mA at Medium and 8mA at Low. At minimum sounder voltage, maximum combined sounder and VAD current for the range is 23mA, 19mA and 13mA in turbo, or 21mA, 17mA and 11mA without turbo, in High, Medium and Low order. This combined voice sounder and VAD has approximate maximum loop quantities of 38 at High Power, 47 at Medium and 72 at Low, dependent on loop load. Loop loading is the same as for the non-EP S3-V-VAD-HPR-R.

The unit is supplied with its front and back box, with no alternative EP base options. The gasket and earth continuity strap are fitted to the back box. The supplied fixings are two M3 x 10mm screws. Mount the unit on the surface of a flat external wall, with TOP upwards and the VAD horizontally level. Fit IP66 glands to the two upper or one lower cable knockouts. Leave the rear entry unused to retain IP66. Do not paint the enclosure.

Use Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.32 or later to change settings on site. For certified coverage, supported EN Vigilon four-loop and four-to-six-loop panels need MCC V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. Vigilon Compact needs MCB V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later for certified coverage. Nano needs MCB V3.12 or later, LP V1.08 or later and Nano Commissioning Tool V3.0 or later; its VAD runs at Low Power only. The device is fully compatible with earlier panel software at Low Power. Certified coverage requires these minimum software versions. Adjust volume remotely using S3-CONTROL within 3m and with the panel in Test mode. Use the remote to store the change in the unit, then save the new volume at the panel.

Optional accessories

  • S3-CONTROLHandiLink IR Remote Control for the S-Cubed Range of SoundersOptional accessory. The EP installation instructions name the infrared remote control as S3-CONTROL, operating range up to 3m, as the on-site means of setting volume and selecting the tone or speech message with the panel in Test mode. Stocked, GBP 107.64 ex VAT. Note the naming trap: Gent's range datasheet calls the same part the HandiLink infrared remote and the site's own product name is Gent HandiLink IR Remote Control for the S-Cubed Range of Sounders, so list it by part number or the buyer will not match the manual to the listing.£107.64ex VAT£129.17 inc VATIn stock

FAQs

What is the EN 54-23 coverage of the S3EP-V-VAD-HPR-R?

Coverage at High Power is W-6.7-14 and 1313 cubic metres; at Medium it is W-6.5-12.5 and 1015 cubic metres; at Low it is W-5-9.5 and 451 cubic metres. The W category is for wall mounting. The first number is maximum mounting height; the second is maximum width and length, in metres. The minimum mounting height is 2.4m. Certified coverage requires compliant VAD mode and compatible panel software, with a minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 Lux.

Is the S3EP-V-VAD-HPR-R suitable for outdoor use?

The IP66 EP enclosure suits outdoor locations and harsh indoor areas. The enclosure has LPCB approval for IP33 and independent testing for IP66. Mount the unit on the surface of a flat external wall with TOP facing upwards and the VAD horizontally level. Fit IP66 glands at the two upper or one lower cable knockouts. Leave the rear cable entry unused when IP66 is required. Keep the enclosure free of paint.

Is a separate base needed for the S3EP-V-VAD-HPR-R?

The front and back box are supplied as a complete unit, and the EP range has no alternative base options. The gasket and earth continuity strap are already fitted to the back box. Fixings comprise two M3 x 10mm screws. For cable entry, two upper and one lower knockouts take IP66 glands. Leave the rear entry unused to retain IP66. The complete EP assembly is for surface mounting and measures 125 x 125 x 95mm.

Do Gent sounders and VADs synchronise across all panel loops?

Sounders, voice sounders and VADs synchronise across all loops of a single Gent panel, but not between networked panels. The flash interval for this unit is two seconds, or 0.5Hz. S-Cubed Mark 3 EP voice models provide three tones, four spoken messages and a bell tone. The default message and attention-tone period is 10 seconds, adjustable up to 30 seconds using the commissioning tool. Remote volume adjustment requires the panel to be in Test mode.

What is the difference between this EP unit and the S3-V-VAD-HPR-R?

Both units have a voice sounder, High Power red VAD and red body, and their loop loading is the same. This IP66 EP model suits outdoor positions and harsh indoor areas. It is supplied complete at 125 x 125 x 95mm, including the front and back box, with no alternative bases. The non-EP S3-V-VAD-HPR-R has an IP21 rating for internal walls and measures 112 x 112 x 90mm with its standard base.
