The S3-V-VAD-HPW-R is the red bodied voice sounder with a High Power white visual alarm device in Gent's S-Cubed Mark 3 range. It is loop powered and compatible with Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano systems. It combines tone, speech and visual alarms.
S-Cubed sounders provide three LPCB approved signals: an intermittent 970Hz tone at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz tones at 2Hz, and a continuous 970Hz tone. Each tone frequency has a tolerance of +/-10%. The range sounder rating is 103dB(A) +/-3dB, measured at 90 degrees and 1m. S-Cubed voice sounders store four spoken messages and a bell tone. The female announcements cover emergency evacuation, awaiting instructions and a test; the male announcement is for fire alarm evacuation. Message 3 with Signal 1 and Message 5 with Signal 2 are approved to EN 54-3 Annex C. The message and attention tone period defaults to 10 seconds and can be set up to 30 seconds; audio and bell-tone storage is up to 20 seconds.
The High Power white VAD coverage is High: W-5-12.5, 781 cubic metres; Medium: W-4.5-11.3, 574 cubic metres; Low: W-3-8.5, 216 cubic metres. Coverage requires compliant operation, compatible panel software, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. For EN Vigilon 4-loop and 4-6-loop panels, EN 54-23 coverage requires MCC V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. For EN Vigilon Compact, it requires MCB V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later. On Nano, MCB V3.12 or later and LP V1.08 or later support Low Power coverage only. The S-Cubed VAD flash interval is two seconds. Maximum VAD loop current and power are 18mA and 630mW at High Power, 14mA and 490mW at Medium Power, and 8mA and 280mW at Low Power. Combined sounder/VAD maxima at High, Medium and Low are 23mA, 19mA and 13mA for Turbo, or 21mA, 17mA and 11mA for Non Turbo.
The indoor S-Cubed range uses a 35V to 48V loop supply and loop in/out terminals 01, L1, 02 and L2; the loop screen connects to the metal box earth. The S3-V-VAD-HPW-R has an integral short circuit isolator meeting EN 54-17. The indoor range is rated IP 21 for internal wall positions. Its body and lens are polycarbonate and the base is ABS. The indoor S-Cubed range has a 112mm square face and projects 90mm on the standard base or 75mm on an optional shallow base. The S3-BASE-SR shallow base matches this red body and comes in packs of five. Allow at least 10cm below the ceiling when fitting a shallow base so that the locking screw remains accessible. Keep the TOP mark facing upwards and the cable tails within 10cm. The base must remain surface mounted and the enclosure unpainted.
Changes to VAD settings on site use the Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.32 or later with compatible loop software. The Nano Commissioning Tool is V3.0 or later. The device remains compatible with earlier panel software; certified coverage depends on the panel and loop versions above. For S-Cubed voice sounders, the S3-CONTROL infrared remote selects tone, speech message and volume from up to 3m away while the panel is in test mode. Hold the remote's power button to store the device settings. After a volume adjustment, save the new level at the panel. S-Cubed sounders and visual alarm devices synchronise across all loops of one panel; synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.

FAQs
What EN 54-23 coverage does the white VAD on the S3-V-VAD-HPW-R give, and how does it compare with the red flash version?
The white VAD gives W-5-12.5 and 781 cubic metres at High Power, W-4.5-11.3 and 574 cubic metres at Medium, or W-3-8.5 and 216 cubic metres at Low. The red S3-V-VAD-HPR-R gives W-6.7-14 and 1313 cubic metres at High Power. Coverage requires compliant operation, compatible panel software, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. Both models have red bodies and provide three tones, four spoken messages and a bell tone.
Which tones and spoken messages does the S3-V-VAD-HPW-R hold, and which of them meet EN 54-3 Annex C?
This model provides three tones, four spoken messages and a bell tone. The S-Cubed tones are intermittent 970Hz at 1Hz, alternating 730Hz and 970Hz at 2Hz, and continuous 970Hz. The female messages cover emergency evacuation, awaiting instructions and a test; the male message is fire alarm evacuation. Message 3, awaiting instructions with Signal 1, and Message 5, male evacuation with Signal 2, are approved to EN 54-3 Annex C. The female emergency evacuation message is paired with Signal 3.
How does the S3-V-VAD-HPW-R flash, and which alarm settings can be changed?
The S-Cubed VAD flash interval is two seconds, or 0.5Hz. S-Cubed voice sounders have a message and attention tone period of 10 seconds by default, adjustable up to 30 seconds using the commissioning tool. The S3-CONTROL infrared remote can adjust tone, speech message and volume within 3m while the panel is in test mode. Hold its power button to store device settings, and save any adjusted volume at the panel as well. This model has a white flash behind a clear lens and a red body.
What happens to the coverage on a Gent Nano panel, or on older panel software?
Nano requires MCB V3.12 or later and LP V1.08 or later, supporting Low Power coverage of W-3-8.5 and 216 cubic metres. EN Vigilon four-loop, Compact and four-to-six-loop panels require MCC or MCB V4.52 or later and LPC V4.48 or later for certified coverage. Coverage requires compliant operation, installation within the category's maximum mounting height and minimum effective illuminance of 0.4 lux. The device remains compatible with earlier panel software. The white VAD is limited to its Low Power setting on Nano.
Does the S3-V-VAD-HPW-R need a base, and which one should I order?
Supplied with a matching red standard base and one screw fitted in the base. The optional S3-BASE-SR shallow base is red, matching this red bodied model, and comes in packs of five. Indoor S-Cubed devices project 90mm from the wall on the standard deep base or 75mm on the shallow base. Indoor S-Cubed VADs weigh 293g with the deep base or 271g with the shallow base. Leave at least 10cm below the ceiling when fitting the shallow base so that the locking screw remains accessible. The indoor range has a 112mm square face.
