Description
The Gent S4-34420 is the one-output, one-input low voltage interface module for Vigilon and 34000 fire alarm systems. Its relay gives one set of single-pole changeover contacts, NC, COM and NO, rated 1A at 30V ac/dc into a resistive load, for switching external equipment from the fire alarm system. Its input then lets the system watch that equipment: configured as a confirmation input, it raises a fault if the expected change of state is not seen within the period set for the paired output. The module takes its power and its address from the loop and includes a loop isolator. Supplied with eight 10K resistors and an end-of-line capacitor unit, without an enclosure.

That changeover set is the point of difference inside the S4 low voltage range: the four-channel S4-34450 offers either a normally open or a normally closed set of contacts, while this module brings out the full changeover. The 1A at 30V ac/dc resistive figure is the limit of what it switches directly.
The input is a clean contact circuit on terminals 11 and 12. It is monitored with a 10K resistor in series with the contacts plus a 10K end-of-line resistor, on a run of up to 300 metres. The input can be configured as a fire, fault or supervisory (non fire) switch input working on either normally open or normally closed contacts, or as a confirmation input. An optional input acceptance delay of up to 10 seconds on a fire input and up to 300 seconds on a fault or supervisory input means a signal is only accepted once it has stayed active for that period, for example to ride out contact bounce. Where the module has to monitor the equipment it switches, the input is configured as a confirmation input and paired with the relay output: a fault is then generated if a change of state is not seen within the period predefined for that output. The input can be left unwired when only the relay output is required.
The S4-34420 does not accept a conventional detector zone. For conventional detectors and manual call points, use the S4-34410 or channel 1 of the S4-34450.
Like every module in the S4 low voltage range it is loop powered, includes a loop isolator for device isolation, and uses one of the 207 device addresses available on a loop, responding to regular polls from the control panel with its device type and the status, open, normal or short, of its supervised input circuit. The loop connects at terminals 4 to 1. The loop cable screen must be carried through each interface module, and the loop and switch input cable screens, where used, must connect to an earth terminal. Within the S4 low voltage trio, modules with one to four switch inputs have a load factor of 1 and modules with one to four relay outputs have a load factor of 2. Each group has a maximum of 200 modules per loop; only eight relay-output modules can be individually sectored.
For Vigilon and 34000 systems, compatible firmware pairs are LPC V3.93 with MCC/MCB V3.94, or LPC V4.35 with MCC/MCB V4.37. Configuration is done with the Commissioning Tool software, version 1.21 or greater.
The module comes with its plug-in terminal blocks, eight 10K resistors and one end-of-line capacitor unit. The white module measures 93 x 90 x 23mm and weighs about 100g without an enclosure. The M200E-SMB surface mounting box, formerly S4-34493, suits a single module. The S4-34492 small metal box has 20mm and 25mm knockouts, and the S4-34496 houses six interfaces together. S4-34491 DIN rail brackets come in packs of five for mounting inside other equipment. The module assembly has IP31 protection in the S4-34490 plastic box. The S4 low voltage trio operates from -10°C to +60°C, with storage from -30°C to +70°C and up to 95% non-condensing relative humidity at +5°C to +45°C.

FAQs
How do I configure a Gent S4-34420?
Configuration is done in the Gent Commissioning Tool, version 1.21 or later, never at the panel. Set the device type to interface unit and the device selection to loop powered, then confirm it as a low voltage interface. Channel use is fixed here: channel 1 carries the relay output, channel 4 carries the input, and channels 2 and 3 have no hardware behind them, so both are set to unused. Save and transmit to the panel, then finish with a card backup and a loop reallocation.
Does the S4-34420 come with an enclosure, and which box should I order?
No. The module comes with eight 10K resistors and an end-of-line capacitor unit; the enclosure is separate. For a single interface the M200E-SMB surface mounting box, previously coded S4-34493, is the cost-effective route, while the S4-34492 small metal box with its 20mm and 25mm knockouts is our usual recommendation. The S4-34496 takes six interfaces in one enclosure, and the S4-34491 DIN rail brackets, sold in packs of five, suit a module going inside other equipment. The large plastic S4-34490 fits, but its six knockouts really suit the S4-34450.
Does the Gent S4-34420 need a separate power supply?
No. The S4-34420 takes its power and communications from the addressable loop, so it needs no local power supply, mains spur or standby battery. The loop connects at terminals 4 to 1. As part of the S4 low voltage trio, the module uses one of the 207 available device addresses and includes a loop isolator. Its relay provides single-pole changeover contacts rated 1A at 30V ac/dc into a resistive load, with a separate supervised input on terminals 11 and 12.
Is the relay output on the S4-34420 a changeover contact?
Yes. The relay provides NC on terminal 7, COM on terminal 6 and NO on terminal 5, rated 1A at 30V ac/dc into a resistive load. Both the normally open and normally closed contacts are available, so the external circuit can make or break when the relay operates. The four-channel S4-34450 offers either normally open or normally closed contacts on each channel. The S4-34420 also has a separate supervised input on terminals 11 and 12 for monitoring external equipment.
What can the input on the S4-34420 be used for?
The input on terminals 11 and 12 is a supervised clean-contact circuit accepting normally open or normally closed contacts.
