Description

The Gent VIG-NC-SMF is a single-mode fibre network card for Vigilon Plus panels and network nodes. It links VIGPLUS-24, VIGPLUS-72 and VIGPLUS-NODE over fibre distances of up to 20 km between panels or nodes. Link P12 selects its Domain or Domain Ring role. A domain can have up to 31 panels and nodes; a domain ring can join up to 64 smaller networks, with 200 panels and nodes across the whole system. The card connects through ST sockets using 9/125µm single-mode fibre. It needs an MCC at V4.56 or later, with the fibre installation planned for the 3 dB to 15 dB attenuation range.

VIG-NC-SMF connects Vigilon Plus panels and network nodes through single-mode fibre, with up to 20 km between VIGPLUS-24, VIGPLUS-72 or VIGPLUS-NODE hosts. The card requires a Main Control Card at V4.56 or later and plugs into the host backplane. The single-mode card fits P8, Card 6, with separate transmit and receive connections at each end.

Link P12 configures the card for Domain or Domain Ring operation. Domain mode supports up to 31 panels and network nodes in a secure loop. A Domain Ring can join up to 64 smaller networks, each with up to 31 panels, while the complete system remains limited to 200 panels and nodes. The 20 km fibre figure applies between the relevant panels or nodes in these arrangements.

The specified cable is 9/125µm single-mode fibre, LSZH 01855M, G652 compliant and classified OS1. It connects directly through ST sockets on the card. Operating wavelength is 1310nm, with attenuation from 3 dB to 15 dB using this cable. The fibre must be installed with adequate mechanical protection in accordance with the recommendations of BS 5839 Part 1, with bend radius kept within the cable manufacturer's limits.

Short fibre runs need suitable attenuators in the patch panel. Connect transmit on one card to receive on the next, and use patch leads of the correct length and routing. Single-mode and multimode fibre must not be mixed on Domain or Domain Ring networks.

SW1 switches 7 and 8 select baud rates of 19.2K, 38.4K, 115.2K or 230.4K. The card measures 144 mm high, 100 mm wide and 14 mm deep, with an approximate weight of 100 g. Operating temperature is 0°C to +45°C, with storage from -10°C to +55°C and relative humidity up to 90%, non-condensing.

FAQs

Which panels and nodes can use VIG-NC-SMF?

VIG-NC-SMF fits VIGPLUS-24, VIGPLUS-72 and VIGPLUS-NODE, with a Main Control Card at V4.56 or later. It occupies P8, Card 6, on the host backplane. Fibre leads connect directly to ST sockets on the card. Links can reach 20 km between panels or nodes using 9/125µm single-mode fibre, LSZH 01855M, G652 compliant and OS1 classified. The optical attenuation range is 3 dB to 15 dB at 1310nm, with suitable patch-panel attenuators required for shorter fibre runs.

What is the difference between Domain and Domain Ring mode?

Link P12 selects the VIG-NC-SMF's network role. In Domain mode, up to 31 Vigilon Plus panels and network nodes can form a secure loop. Domain Ring mode joins up to 64 smaller networks, each having up to 31 panels. The complete system is limited to 200 panels and nodes. Fibre links can reach 20 km between the relevant panels or nodes in either arrangement, using 9/125µm single-mode cable and ST socket connections.

Can single-mode and multimode fibre be mixed on the network?

Single-mode and multimode fibre must not be mixed on Domain or Domain Ring networks. This card's specified fibre is single-mode 9/125µm, LSZH 01855M, G652 compliant and classified OS1. Its ST sockets connect at an operating wavelength of 1310nm. Use the specified cable and the correct patch leads for this card, connect transmit to receive between successive cards, and observe the cable manufacturer's bend radius together with the required mechanical protection for the fibre route.

Are attenuators needed on short VIG-NC-SMF fibre runs?

Shorter fibre runs need suitable attenuators in the patch panel. The attenuation range is 3 dB to 15 dB with 9/125µm single-mode cable, at a 1310nm operating wavelength. Patch leads must have the correct length and routing for direct connection to the ST fibre sockets on the card. Keep the cable within its manufacturer's bend-radius limit and provide the required mechanical protection for the fibre installation along the full route.

How are the VIG-NC-SMF communication settings selected?

SW1 switches 7 and 8 select the card's baud rate, with 19.2K, 38.4K, 115.2K and 230.4K available. Link P12 separately selects Domain or Domain Ring operation, so the communication speed and the card's network role are distinct settings. This card requires an MCC at V4.56 or later. Its fibre connections run from transmit on one card to receive on the next, using correctly routed patch leads connected directly to the card's ST sockets.
