Description
The Gent S4T-710 is an optical and heat detector that tests its own sensing elements. It reads smoke at one optical angle and measures heat with a thermistor. During self-test, aerosol enters the smoke chamber and the heat element is warmed to check its response. A fan then clears the aerosol through the smoke entry points. Part of the S-Quad Self-Test range for Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus, it takes power from the loop and fits an S4-700 base. It has a white body and an integral loop isolator. Self-test is run through the CLSS app with a gateway and an active Self-Test licence.

The S4T-710 is the optical and heat multi-sensor model in the Gent S-Quad Self-Test range. Its smoke sensor uses one transmitting LED and an infrared receiver to measure forward-scattered light in the optical chamber. A separate thermistor measures heat. The panel uses these readings and the configured detection state to decide when to raise a fire alarm.
Optical self-test generates a controlled amount of paraffin aerosol and uses a fan to move it into the sensing chamber. The panel checks the optical response. The fan then increases airflow to clear the aerosol through the smoke entry points, and the panel checks the fall in readings back to ambient levels. Heat self-test warms the thermistor and checks its response over time.
The S4T range includes an integral short-circuit isolator and a red fire indicator. The indicator can also be configured for periodic operation flashes across the system. The panel regularly monitors detector operation and reports a fault if a monitored function fails. With the base lock engaged, a tool is needed to release the detector.
The head fits the S4-700 base, which requires a metal back box. Use screened two-core fire-rated loop cable with conductors from 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and maintain earth continuity. Supplied with one detector head and one orange dust cover. The cover protects the detector during building work and must be removed before commissioning. The S4T range has IP21C housings measuring 117 mm in diameter and 63 mm high, increasing to 70 mm with the standard base.
The S-Quad Self-Test range operates on Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus systems with compatible firmware, SD-card MCC or MCB hardware and a VIGPLUS-LPC-EN loop card. Self-test requires a CLSS gateway for each network domain, the CLSS mobile app and an active Self-Test licence. Run testing with the panel in Service mode. Configure the system with Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.40 or later, and calculate the loop load and standby requirement with the Battery Standby and Loop Load Calculator.

What does the S4T-710 detect?
The S4T-710 combines optical smoke detection with heat sensing. One optical angle measures forward-scattered light, while a thermistor supplies the heat reading. The panel uses the readings with its selected detection state to make the fire decision. This is the sensor-only optical and heat model: it has no integral tone sounder, voice sounder or VAD. The S4T-770-S combines the same single-angle optical and heat sensing types with a tone sounder in the detector head.
How does the S4T-710 test its sensors?
The S4T-710 generates a controlled aerosol inside the detector and moves it into the optical chamber with a fan. The panel checks the smoke response, then checks that readings fall back to ambient levels as the fan clears the aerosol through the smoke entry points. Can the S4T-710 fit an existing S4-700 base?
Yes. The S4T-710 fits the S4-700 base used by S-Quad detectors. The base requires a metal back box, screened two-core fire-rated loop cable and continuous earthing around the loop. An existing base fit does not establish system compatibility: Self-Test operation also needs a supported Vigilon Plus or Compact Plus system and its CLSS connection. The S4T range head is 117 mm across and 63 mm high, with an overall height of 70 mm on the standard base.
Which detection states can be selected on the S4T-710?
The S4T-710 has selectable states 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12. State 0 is the factory default and combines normal optical sensitivity with A1 heat detection. The state determines how the panel uses the optical and heat readings for the installation. The optical chamber has a single measuring angle, so this model does not provide the two-angle aerosol discrimination of the S4T-711. Both models include a separate heat sensing thermistor.
