Description

The Gent S4-715 is an addressable optical smoke sensor for Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano fire alarm panels. Its single optical channel measures smoke in the chamber and sends readings to the panel for the fire decision. Five sensing modes provide normal, high, low and delayed responses, with normal sensitivity as the default. This is also the optical head used in the Gent duct sensor. It takes its power from the loop and includes a short circuit isolator. The white ABS head fits the separate S4-700 base and has a red fire LED. The S4-710 combines optical smoke detection with heat sensing.

The S4-715 detects smoke through a single forward-scatter optical chamber. Its readings reach the panel on analogue channel 1. It has no heat element or integral sounder. The S4-710 combines single optical and heat sensing, while the S4-711 uses dual optical and heat sensing. The S4-715 is also the optical head used in the Gent duct sensor.

Five selectable sensing STATEs are available. STATE 0 is normal optical sensitivity, STATE 3 is high sensitivity, STATE 4 is normal sensitivity without spike rejection, and STATE 8 gives a delayed medium-sensitivity response. STATE 2 provides low optical sensitivity and is outside LPCB approval. The setting is selected during commissioning to suit the environment. STATE 3 suits clean areas needing early detection; STATE 8 suits areas with transient steam, dust or smoke.

S-Quad devices take power from the loop at 35 V to 48 V. This head includes a short circuit isolator. Its Nano load factor is 0.5; Nano allows a maximum of 127 devices on its loop. This maximum is subject to loop loading. Use the Battery Standby and Loop Load calculator to determine the installed device mix, cable length and standby requirement.

S-Quad heads plug into the separately ordered S4-700 base. Mount the base on a metal back box, maintain loop earth continuity and connect earth securely to the box. The base locking peg can secure the head against removal. A locked head needs access to the peg for release. The S4-FLUSH kit provides semi-flush ceiling mounting for the white S-Quad range.

The S-Quad programmable connection supports either a monitored input or an unmonitored output. The default output drives a remote repeat LED without a series resistor. One 13449-01 or SEN-LED remote indicator can connect to a base, with a maximum run of 15 m to the external I/O unit. The head is supplied with a dust cover, which must be removed before commissioning.

FAQs

Is the S4-715 an optical and heat detector?

The S4-715 is an optical smoke detector with a single forward-scatter optical channel. It has no heat element, and its sensing reading is carried on analogue channel 1. The S4-710 combines single optical smoke sensing with heat, while the S4-711 combines dual optical smoke sensing with heat. The S4-715 still includes a short circuit isolator and takes its power from the panel loop. Its five selectable optical sensing modes are configured during commissioning, with normal sensitivity as the factory default.

Is the S4-715 used in the Gent duct sensor?

Yes. The S4-715 is the optical head used in the Gent duct sensor. Its sensing element is a single forward-scatter optical chamber, and its optical reading is carried on channel 1. The S4-715 order code identifies the sensor head. For ceiling mounting, it plugs into the separately ordered S4-700 base, with the S4-FLUSH kit available for semi-flush mounting of white S-Quad heads. The head has a red fire LED and takes its power from the fire alarm loop.

Which optical sensitivity modes does the S4-715 provide?

The S4-715 offers five selectable sensing STATEs. STATE 0 gives normal optical sensitivity and is the factory default. STATE 3 provides high sensitivity for clean areas where early detection is required. STATE 4 uses normal sensitivity without spike rejection, while STATE 8 provides delayed medium sensitivity for transient steam, dust or smoke. STATE 2 is low sensitivity and is outside LPCB approval. These are commissioning choices for the same optical head; the device has no heat sensing channel.

Can a remote LED connect to the S4-715 base?

Yes. The S-Quad programmable connection defaults to an unmonitored output that drives a remote repeat LED without a series resistor. A base accepts one 13449-01 or SEN-LED indicator, with a maximum cable run of 15 m between the base and the external I/O unit. The connection can alternatively be set as a monitored input during commissioning. On the S4-715, smoke sensing remains on analogue channel 1, and the head also has its own red LED to indicate fire.

What is needed to mount the S4-715 on a ceiling?

Use the separate S4-700 base for the S4-715 head. The base must be mounted on a metal back box, with the loop earth carried through and securely connected to the box. The S4-FLUSH kit provides a semi-flush mounting option for the white S-Quad range. The base locking peg can secure the head against removal, and a locked head needs access to the peg for release. The sensor comes with a dust cover to protect it during building work; remove it before commissioning.
