Description
The Gent S4-710 is an addressable optical and heat sensor for Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano fire alarm panels. It combines a single optical smoke channel with a heat element, sending both readings to the panel for the fire decision. Ten sensing modes let the response suit the room, with normal optical sensitivity and Class A1 heat as the default. The head takes its power from the loop and includes a short circuit isolator. It fits the separate S4-700 base and has a white RAL 9010 ABS housing with a red fire LED. The S4-770-S adds an integral sounder to optical and heat detection.

The S4-710 combines a single forward-scatter optical smoke chamber with a thermistor. Analogue channel 1 carries the optical reading and channel 2 carries heat. The panel evaluates those readings to decide whether there is a fire. This head provides sensing only; the S4-770-S combines optical and heat detection with an integral sounder.
Ten selectable sensing STATEs are available: 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12. STATE 0 starts with normal optical sensitivity and Class A1 heat. STATE 3 raises optical sensitivity and STATE 8 introduces a delayed optical response. Other modes provide Class B, BS or A2S heat, and STATE 12 uses Class A1 heat alone. STATEs 2, 6 and 11 use low optical sensitivity.
S-Quad devices take power from the loop at 35 V to 48 V. This head includes a short circuit isolator. Its Nano load factor is 0.5; Nano allows a maximum of 127 devices on its loop. This maximum is subject to loop loading. Use the Battery Standby and Loop Load calculator to determine the installed device mix, cable length and standby requirement.
S-Quad heads plug into the separately ordered S4-700 base. Mount the base on a metal back box, maintain loop earth continuity and connect earth securely to the box. The base locking peg can secure the head against removal. A locked head needs access to the peg for release. The S4-FLUSH kit provides semi-flush ceiling mounting for the white S-Quad range.
The S-Quad programmable connection supports either a monitored input or an unmonitored output. The default output drives a remote repeat LED without a series resistor. One 13449-01 or SEN-LED remote indicator can connect to a base, with a maximum run of 15 m to the external I/O unit. The head is supplied with a dust cover, which must be removed before commissioning.

How does the S4-710 differ from the S4-711?
The S4-710 combines one forward-scatter optical smoke channel with a thermistor heat element. The S4-711 adds a backward-scatter optical reading, giving its panel two optical measurements to compare when distinguishing smoke from dust and steam. Both heads provide optical and heat detection and use the S4-700 base. Their sensing response is selected through commissioning STATEs. For optical and heat sensing with an integral sounder, the single-optical model is S4-770-S and the dual-optical model is S4-771-S.
Can the S4-710 operate as a heat-only detector?
Yes. STATE 12 gives the S4-710 Class A1 heat-only detection. Its factory setting, STATE 0, combines normal optical sensitivity with Class A1 heat, so heat-only operation is a change made during commissioning. The head contains both the optical chamber and thermistor throughout; the selected STATE determines their role in detection. Other settings provide optical and heat combinations using Class B, BS or A2S heat. STATE 12 uses the heat element without an optical smoke detection component.
