Description

The Gent S4-34440-12 is a mains powered interface with a 2.5A total output limit, combining an EN 54-4 battery backed power supply and a four channel loop interface in one steel enclosure. It connects to a Vigilon loop and runs from its own 230V supply. Each channel can be configured as an input or output, while combined configurations allow up to eight external circuits. The regulated auxiliary output can supply external equipment at either 12V or 24V, with its load included in the total output limit. Standby batteries are not included: order two 4015-514-YFR, 12V 12Ah flame retardant batteries, with the unit.

The S4-34440-12 combines a battery backed mains power supply and a four channel interface for a Gent Vigilon loop. Its maximum total output current is 2.5A, including the sector outputs and auxiliary supply. Its EN 54-4 figures are Imax a 1.5A, Imax b 2.5A and Ri max 1.3 ohms. This variant cannot be connected to a Nano loop; the S4-34440-02 is the Nano compatible model.

The S4-34440-02 and S4-34440-12 each support combined input and output operation, with up to eight external circuits from four channels. These can include four sector outputs and four confirmation inputs. Both models accept voltage free switch contacts or conventional detection zones. Their sector outputs supply 24V at up to 0.5A each and require a series blocking diode.

The S4-34440-12 auxiliary output is regulated and selectable between 12V and 24V. Voltage tolerance is plus or minus 0.5V up to 0.5A, or plus or minus 2V above 0.5A up to the 0.65A maximum. The S4-34440-02 has a fixed 24V auxiliary output. Every connected load, including equipment on the auxiliary supply, counts towards the S4-34440-12 total output limit of 2.5A.

Standby power uses two 12V 12Ah batteries fitted inside the enclosure during commissioning. They are not included; order two 4015-514-YFR flame retardant batteries. Each battery weighs 4.31kg. The 2.1Ah batteries used by the S4-34440-02 must not be fitted in this variant. Both models use a 230V, 50Hz or 60Hz mains supply, with a tolerance of minus 15 to plus 10 per cent and a rated current of 0.7A, through an unswitched 5A fused spur and a double pole disconnect device with at least a 3mm gap.

The S4 mains interface range uses Vigilon Main Controller Card versions V4.43 or V3.97 with the corresponding Loop Processor Card versions V4.41 or V3.97, and commissioning tool V1.27 or later. The channels are supplied set to unused and the auxiliary output is off. Configuration is carried out through the commissioning tool. Door release to BS 7273 Part 4:2007 requires an EN Vigilon system with compatible software, including Main Controller Card V4.48. This application is unavailable on BS Vigilon and Nano panels.

A sector output supplies power and does not provide a dry relay contact. The optional 19104-52 relay fits on the internal DIN rail and has a 24V DC coil with contacts rated 10A at 250V AC. Both S4 mains interface models use a steel enclosure, with shared dimensions of 478 x 322 x 145mm and an assembled weight of approximately 5.25kg before batteries and optional components are fitted.

FAQs

Will the S4-34440-12 work on a Nano panel?

No. The S4-34440-12 connects to a Vigilon loop and cannot be used on Nano. The S4-34440-02 is the Nano compatible variant, with a 1.5A total output limit and a fixed 24V auxiliary supply. The S4-34440-12 provides a 2.5A total output limit and a regulated auxiliary supply selectable between 12V and 24V. Battery requirements also differ: the S4-34440-12 takes two 12V 12Ah batteries, while the S4-34440-02 takes two 12V 2.1Ah batteries. Both models have four configurable channels.

What is the difference between the S4-34440-12 and S4-34440-02?

The S4-34440-12 has a maximum total output current of 2.5A, compared with 1.5A for the S4-34440-02. Its regulated auxiliary supply can be set to 12V or 24V; the S4-34440-02 supplies fixed 24V. The S4-34440-12 takes two 12V 12Ah standby batteries, while the S4-34440-02 takes two 12V 2.1Ah batteries. The loop connection also affects selection: both models connect to Vigilon, but only the S4-34440-02 connects to Nano. Each provides four configurable channels with combined input and output options.

Which batteries does the S4-34440-12 need, and are they included?

The batteries are ordered separately: this variant takes two 12V 12Ah flame retardant batteries, order code 4015-514-YFR. They fit inside the enclosure during commissioning and weigh 4.31kg each. The S4-34440-12 must not be fitted with the 12V 2.1Ah batteries used by the S4-34440-02. The shared enclosure has an assembled weight of approximately 5.25kg before batteries and optional components are fitted. The interface uses its own 230V mains supply, with the batteries providing standby power when mains fails.

Does a channel on this interface give a volt free changeover contact?

A sector channel provides a 24V supply to connected equipment and does not act as a dry relay contact. The optional 19104-52 low voltage power relay can be driven from the output when a contact is needed. It mounts on the internal DIN rail, has a 24V DC coil and carries contacts rated 10A at 250V AC. The interface sector output still has its own 0.5A limit and needs a series blocking diode in the connected circuit.

Can the S4-34440-12 be used for door release?

The mains interface range supports door release to BS 7273 Part 4:2007 on an EN Vigilon system with compatible software. The Main Controller Card version required for that application is V4.48. A BS Vigilon or Nano panel cannot provide this application through the mains interface. A sector output supplies power to the door holder and requires a series blocking diode. The connected load counts towards the S4-34440-12 total output limit of 2.5A, which also includes the auxiliary supply and other sector outputs.
