Description
The Gent S4-34440-ASD connects a FAAST aspirating smoke detection unit to the device loop of a Vigilon fire alarm system. It passes fire and fault signals from the FAAST unit to the panel for cause and effect actions, while its auxiliary output supplies power to the detector. The steel enclosure houses a mains powered EN 54-4 supply with battery standby. It needs a 230V mains connection and two 12V 14Ah batteries, supplied separately under order code 4015-604-YFR. The interface can be configured for single port or dual port FAAST operation and still needs commissioning before it can work with the panel.

It passes fire and fault events to the panel for cause and effect actions and powers the FAAST unit through its auxiliary output. This order code is the interface on its own. Bundles with FAAST LT detectors are FL0111E-HS-VIG-INT, FL0112E-HS-VIG-INT and FL0122E-HS-VIG-INT. The 8100-VIG-INT, 7100XE-VIG-INT and 9400XE-VIG-INT bundles pair the interface with the corresponding FAAST detector.
The event inputs connect at PB2 to PB5, the auxiliary supply at PB6 and the loop at PB1. With an FL0111E-HS or FL0112E-HS, channel 1 receives Fire, channel 2 Fault and channel 3 Pre-Alarm; channel 4 is unused. With an FL0122E-HS, channel 4 receives the second detector's fire signal. Fire inputs use a 470 ohm trigger and a 22 microfarad end of line; other inputs use a 470 ohm trigger and a 470 ohm end of line. The zone circuits have a nominal voltage of 16V or 22.5V, with 22.5V as the default, at plus or minus 15 per cent. Default quiescent current is 20mA per zone, with short circuit current limited to less than 30mA.
The regulated auxiliary output provides 12V or 24V. Voltage tolerance is plus or minus 0.5V at loads up to 0.5A and plus or minus 2V above 0.5A, up to the 0.65A maximum. Total output current is limited to 1.5A. The supply needs 230V at minus 15 to plus 10 per cent, 50 or 60Hz, with a rated input current of 0.7A. Connect it through a 5A unswitched fused spur and a disconnect device with a minimum 3mm gap. The mains cable needs PH30 fire resistance and conductors of at least 0.75mm2. Route it through a dedicated entry beside the mains terminals, separated from the FAAST and loop wiring.
Standby power needs two 12V 14Ah batteries. They are not included with this order code; order two 4015-604-YFR flame retardant batteries separately. Replace the batteries after four years of use. With these batteries fitted, the interface provides 24 hours of standby power to a FAAST unit, or up to 48 hours with a FAAST LT FL0111E-HS. Optional modules such as the 19104-52 relay fit on the internal DIN rail. Powering additional modules from this supply reduces the available battery standby.
The loop operating voltage is 35V to 48V. The power supply has Imax a of 1.5A, Imax b of 2.5A, Ri max of 1.3 ohms and Imin of 80 microamps. Under voltage lockout is 18.5V DC plus or minus 5 per cent; minimum battery voltage with no mains is 22.5V DC plus or minus 5 per cent. The loop isolator limits are Vmax 48V, Vnom 40V, Vmin 24V, VSO max 16V, VSO min 8V, IC max 0.8A, IS max 1.25A, IL max 50 microamps and ZC max 0.2 ohms.
Commissioning needs a Vigilon Main Controller Card at V4.53 or later, a Loop Processor Card at V4.49 or later and the Vigilon Commissioning tool at V1.31 or later. The factory setting is ASD 1 Port I/F for an FL0112E-HS. Select ASD 2 Port I/F for an FL0122E-HS, or ASD 8100E for an 8100E, 7100XE or 9400XE. Configure the interface and upload the settings to the panel before use. Label both fire channels on a dual port unit so their events display at the panel, and configure pre-alarm channels to trigger command builds. Mount the 478 x 322 x 145mm steel enclosure beside the FAAST unit, within 100mm. Separate locations need duplicated power connections with short circuit protection so either connection can continue supplying power if the other is shorted.

Which FAAST units does the S4-34440-ASD connect to?
The interface connects to FAAST LT models FL0111E-HS, FL0112E-HS and FL0122E-HS, and to FAAST 8100E, 7100XE and 9400XE units. In the commissioning tool, select ASD 1 Port I/F for an FL0111E-HS or FL0112E-HS, ASD 2 Port I/F for an FL0122E-HS, and ASD 8100E for an 8100E, 7100XE or 9400XE. The S4-34440-ASD order code is the interface on its own. It supplies power to the connected FAAST unit and passes fire and fault events to the Vigilon panel.
Are the batteries supplied, and how long is the standby?
The batteries are not included. Order two 4015-604-YFR flame retardant 12V 14Ah batteries separately. With both batteries fitted, the interface provides 24 hours of standby power to a FAAST unit, or up to 48 hours with a FAAST LT FL0111E-HS. Replace the batteries after four years of use. Optional modules fitted to the internal DIN rail can also draw power from the interface supply; that additional load reduces the battery standby available to the FAAST unit.
How close to the FAAST unit does the interface have to be?
Mount the interface beside the FAAST unit, with no more than 100mm between the enclosures. The steel interface enclosure measures 478 x 322 x 145mm. Separate locations need duplicated power connections with short circuit protection, so a short circuit on one connection does not prevent the other from supplying power. Bring the mains cable through its dedicated entry beside the mains terminals and keep it separate from the wiring to the FAAST unit and the Vigilon loop.
It arrives factory set as an ASD interface. Does it still need commissioning?
Yes. The factory setting is ASD 1 Port I/F for a FAAST LT FL0112E-HS. The interface still needs configuration in the Vigilon Commissioning tool and an upload to the panel before it will work. Use tool version V1.31 or later with a Main Controller Card at V4.53 or later and a Loop Processor Card at V4.49 or later. Select the configuration for the connected FAAST model; the other choices are ASD 2 Port I/F and ASD 8100E.
