Description
The Gent VIG-BNG is the read-only BACnet gateway assembly for Vigilon and Compact fire alarm systems. It links a BACnet client to an EN54 Vigilon system. For the VIG-BNG/VIG-BNG-RW kits, the Compact network-node installation uses a carrier in CARD 1, with the network card in CARD 2. The fire system connection is RS232 on serial port 1 at 19200 baud, and the client side uses RJ45 Ethernet. Power comes from the node's separate 24V supply. Select the correct Read Only gateway type when setting up the BACnet Import Generator, so the configuration matches the board fitted at the site.
The VIG-BNG is the read-only board version of Gent's Vigilon BACnet gateway assembly. It connects a BACnet client to an EN54 Vigilon fire detection and alarm system. The model designation matters during configuration: the BACnet Import Generator has a Read Only selection specifically for VIG-BNG, while VIG-BNG-RW has its own Read/Write selection. Match that setting to the fitted board.

For the VIG-BNG/VIG-BNG-RW kits, the Vigilon Compact network-node installation places the carrier at P2, CARD 1. In this shared arrangement, the node's network card occupies P1, marked CARD 2. The gateway board mounts on the carrier.
In this shared node arrangement, the gateway takes its serial connection from PB6 terminals TX1, RX1 and 0V on the node's control board, running to J4, NUP A, on the gateway. Serial port 1 is set to 19200 baud and Standard Mode. The client connection uses RJ45 Ethernet at J3 ENET, and the 100 ohm Ethernet cable has a maximum run of 100m. The supply is wired separately from PB15, 24V and 0V, to the gateway's 24V IN terminals.
VIG-BNG and VIG-BNG-RW require 24V DC at 270mA and operate from 0°C to 49°C, with 93% non-condensing humidity at 30°C. Both use Vigilon 3217 and BACnet 135-2004 Annex J for IP.
For both gateway kits, configuration uses the BACnet Import Generator to prepare BacnetImport.dat, GENTGW.ini and GentComm.ini for transfer to the board. The node carrying the gateway requires the lowest node address in its domain. When several gateways use the same BACnet client and subnet, assign unique network numbers and gateway IDs. A BBMD is required where gateway and client use different subnets. Complete commissioning by checking the required fire-system indications at the head end.

FAQs
How is VIG-BNG identified during configuration?
VIG-BNG is the read-only board version of the Gent BACnet gateway assembly. The BACnet Import Generator uses the Read Only selection for this model and Read/Write for VIG-BNG-RW. For both gateway kits, the tool prepares BacnetImport.dat, GENTGW.ini and GentComm.ini for transfer to the board. Configuration can use files from Vigilon panels or manual panel entries. The gateway links a BACnet client to an EN54 Vigilon system through the Compact network node's serial port 1, set to 19200 baud.
Where does VIG-BNG fit in a Vigilon Compact network node?
For VIG-BNG and VIG-BNG-RW, the Vigilon Compact network-node installation places the carrier at P2, CARD 1, with the network card at P1, CARD 2. The gateway board mounts on the carrier. Serial wiring connects PB6 TX1, RX1 and 0V on the node to J4, NUP A, on the gateway. A separate supply connects PB15 24V and 0V to the gateway's 24V IN terminals. The client connection uses RJ45 Ethernet at J3 ENET, with a maximum cable run of 100m.
Which connections does VIG-BNG need in the Compact node?
For the VIG-BNG/VIG-BNG-RW kits, the fire-system connection uses RS232 serial port 1 at 19200 baud. Wiring runs from PB6 terminals TX1, RX1 and 0V on the node to J4, NUP A, on the gateway. The Ethernet connection to the client network uses J3 ENET, with RJ45 termination. Power is wired separately from the node's PB15 24V and 0V terminals to the gateway's 24V IN terminals. The 100 ohm Ethernet cable has a maximum run of 100m in this arrangement.
How are the files for VIG-BNG prepared?
For both gateway kits, the BACnet Import Generator prepares the gateway data and settings for transfer to the board. The files are BacnetImport.dat, GENTGW.ini and GentComm.ini, with Read Only selected for VIG-BNG. The workflow can use configuration files from the Vigilon panels, or manual panel entries where appropriate. Check the node and domain addresses, gateway IP details and the selected panels before transferring the files. Once configuration is complete, test the head-end display against the fire-system indications required for the installation.
Does the network arrangement affect VIG-BNG setup?
For both gateway kits, the Compact network node carrying the gateway must have the lowest node address in its domain. Where two or more gateways use the same BACnet client and subnet, their network numbers and gateway IDs must be unique. A BBMD is required when the gateway and client are on different subnets. The BACnet Import Generator prepares the gateway data and settings files, using the Read Only selection for VIG-BNG and Read/Write for VIG-BNG-RW.
