Description
The Gent S4-34742 is the beam sensor receiver for a Gent S4 beam pair on Vigilon and Nano systems. Its black lens retainer marks the receiving head, which faces an S4-34741 transmitter across a clear beam path. The pair detects smoke over 2m to 100m, with its range and response set at the receiver. The head takes power from the loop and fits a base on an angle or parallel bracket. Its LEDs help align the beam and show a local fire signal. A light shield can fit to the lens retainer where sunlight or strong light would reach the receiver. The shield is a separate accessory. Each receiver weighs about 105g.

The S4-34742 receives the beam from an S4-34741 transmitter. Its black lens retainer identifies the receiving head. The two heads form the S4-34740 beam sensor pair, with each mounted on its own bracket and sensor base. Both connect to the fire alarm loop. The receiver supplies the local fire indication, while the panel also indicates the fire condition.
The receiver controls the detection state. States 0 and 1 use a 50% signal reduction, with an ideal path of 12m to 100m. States 2 and 3 use 25% over 5m to 100m; states 4 and 5 use 10% over 2m to 30m. LPCB approval covers states 0 to 3. State 0 is the factory setting, and state 15 disables detection. Day and night sensitivity states can be set separately.
A rapid 90% signal reduction in less than one second, sustained for 40 seconds, produces a fault in states 0, 2 and 4. In states 1, 3 and 5 it produces a fire condition. After commissioning, use the S4-34741-50 test cards for the chosen operating state. A fire test is indicated at the receiver and the panel.
The receiver fits the S4-34741-01 angle bracket with base or the S4-34741-03 parallel bracket with base. Alignment uses the LED signal display while the two ends are adjusted. Complete alignment with receiver AutoGain from the panel controls. Where sunlight or strong light reaches the receiver, the S4-34741-99 light shield pushes onto its black lens retainer and locks in place.
Vigilon configuration uses Commissioning Tool V1.26 or later. Nano beam configuration features require Nano Commissioning Tool V2.0.7.1 and panel firmware V2.56 or later. The receiver is 117mm in diameter by 54mm deep and weighs approximately 105g. Its body colour is RAL 9010. The S4 beam range operates from 35V to 41V, with an operating temperature band of -10°C to +50°C.

Which transmitter forms a pair with this receiver?
The S4-34742 receiver works with the S4-34741 transmitter. The black lens retainer identifies the receiver and the red lens retainer identifies the transmitter. The two devices are also available together under the S4-34740 pair order code. Each connects to the loop and fits a base on its own angle or parallel bracket. Receiver settings determine the smoke sensitivity and applicable path distance. Fire is indicated locally at the receiver and also at the fire alarm panel.

How does the light shield fit the receiver?
The S4-34741-99 light shield aligns with the receiver's black lens retainer and pushes into place until it locks with a click. It is used where direct sunlight or strong light is likely to reach the receiver. The shield must only be fitted at the receiving end of the pair. Each shield is 50mm in diameter by 75mm long and weighs approximately 14g. A pack contains five shields, with one fitted to each receiver that needs shielding.
How is receiver alignment completed?
The receiver and transmitter are adjusted in turn using their bracket adjusters and LED signal displays. For pairs without backward conversion, local AutoGain at either device acts on the receiver as the beam signal improves. The last AutoGain is run on the receiver from the panel controls, after which the green alignment LEDs turn off. The resulting gain is compared with the path distance. Fire testing then uses the card procedure for the selected receiver state, with indication at the receiver and panel.
