Description
The Gent S4T-720 is a heat detector that tests its own heat sensing element. A thermistor measures temperature, and the panel applies the heat response selected for the location. During self-test the thermistor is warmed, with readings sent to the panel to check how it responds over time. The selectable heat classes are A1, A2, A2S, B and BS, with A1 set as the default. This white head takes power from the loop and fits an S4-700 base. It belongs to the S-Quad Self-Test range for Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus. Testing is run through the CLSS app with a gateway and an active Self-Test licence.

The S4T-720 is a heat detector. A thermistor provides heat sensing, with the alarm response determined by the state selected at the panel. State 0 selects A1 heat detection and is the factory default. The other choices are state 5 for B, state 6 for BS, state 7 for A2S and state 13 for A2. The BS setting has no rate-of-rise component.
Heat self-test warms the thermistor. During the heating period, the detector sends analogue readings to the control panel, which checks the change in response over time. This model has heat sensing only. It does not detect smoke or carry out an optical self-test.
The S4T range includes an integral short-circuit isolator and a red fire indicator. The indicator can also be configured for periodic operation flashes across the system. The panel regularly monitors detector operation and reports a fault if a monitored function fails. With the base lock engaged, a tool is needed to release the detector.
The head fits the S4-700 base, which requires a metal back box. Use screened two-core fire-rated loop cable with conductors from 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and maintain earth continuity. A dust cover protects the detector during building work and must be removed before commissioning. The S4T range has IP21C housings measuring 117 mm in diameter and 63 mm high, increasing to 70 mm with the standard base.
The S-Quad Self-Test range operates on Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus systems with compatible firmware, SD-card MCC or MCB hardware and a VIGPLUS-LPC-EN loop card. Self-test requires a CLSS gateway for each network domain, the CLSS mobile app and an active Self-Test licence. Run testing with the panel in Service mode. Configure the system with Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.40 or later, and calculate the loop load and standby requirement with the Battery Standby and Loop Load Calculator.

FAQs
Is the S4T-720 a smoke detector?
No. The S4T-720 detects heat using a thermistor and has no optical smoke sensor. The panel uses the temperature reading and the selected heat state to make the fire decision. Its factory state is A1, with A2, A2S, B and BS also selectable. Self-test heats the thermistor and verifies its response over time. This is the heat sensor-only model, without a sounder or VAD. The S4T-710 combines optical smoke and heat sensing in the Self-Test range.
How is the S4T-720 heat element tested?
The S4T-720 heats its thermistor during a functional self-test. As the element warms, analogue readings go back to the panel so that the change in response over time can be checked. The test exercises the heat sensing element actually fitted to this model. It is initiated through the CLSS app, with the panel in Service mode and an active Self-Test licence. The Self-Test system also needs a gateway connection. This heat-only detector does not run an optical smoke test.
Which heat classes can be selected on the S4T-720?
The S4T-720 has five selectable heat states. State 0 provides A1 and is the factory default. State 13 provides A2, state 7 provides A2S, state 5 provides B and state 6 provides BS. The BS setting has no rate-of-rise component. The selected state controls how the panel evaluates the thermistor readings. The detector location must suit heat sensing: avoid positions over boilers or heaters, and locations with normally very high temperatures or sudden temperature fluctuations.
Where should the S4T-720 be mounted?
The S4T-720 fits an S4-700 base on a metal back box. As a heat detector, it must not be positioned above boilers or heaters, or where temperatures are normally very high or subject to sudden fluctuations. The supplied dust cover stays in place during building work and is removed before commissioning. The S4T range housing is IP21C, with an ambient operating range of -10 to +50°C. The standard base increases the head height from 63 to 70 mm.
Can the S4T-720 replace a detector in an existing system?
The S4T-720 fits the existing S4-700 base, and Self-Test devices can share a loop with older devices supported by the VIGPLUS-LPC-EN card. The host system must support Self-Test: Vigilon Plus or Compact Plus, compatible firmware and the supported SD-card MCC or MCB hardware. Testing needs the CLSS app, a gateway and an active licence. Nano does not support this range. The S4T-720 remains a heat-only detector, so the required detection type must match the installation design.
