Description
The Gent S4-720-V-VAD-HPR is an S-Quad heat sensor with a voice sounder and a red High Power VAD for Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano. At High, its light covers C-3-14; on Nano it runs at Low with C-3-10 coverage. It takes power from the loop and has a built-in short-circuit isolator. Stored voice messages give spoken warnings alongside the light. Use the S4-701 base and IP seal plate for IP21C. By default, the light flashes once every two seconds. It detects heat through a thermistor and has no optical smoke sensor. Five heat classes are available: A1, A2, A2S, B and BS, with A1 as the default.
S4-720-V-VAD-HPR detects heat through a thermistor and provides spoken and visual warnings from the same ceiling position. It has no optical smoke sensor. Heat options are Class A1, A2, A2S, B and BS; the default is Class A1. The selected state sets the heat response at the panel.

Four English speech messages cover emergency evacuation, an incident alert, a system test and fire evacuation, with a bell tone available as well. Audio storage is up to 20 seconds, with additional local attention tones. Speech follows an attention tone, and pauses before and after the message can be programmed. Fault monitoring checks the speech circuit without playing a test sound.
The red High Power VAD offers High, Medium and Low settings. Ceiling coverage is C-3-14, C-3-13 and C-3-10 respectively. High also supports O-4.5-14 and Medium supports O-4-13. On Nano the light is fixed at Low, giving C-3-10 coverage. Use the two-second flash interval for EN 54-23 operation.
Supplied with one sensor head and one blue protective dust cover. The mounting base and IP21 mounting plate are not included. Fit the S4-701 base with its IP seal plate to achieve IP21C. S-Quad VAD installations require an IP21 mounting plate for EN 54-23 operation. The voice sounder and visual alarm synchronise across all loops of the same panel. Synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.
For Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus VAD coverage, use MCC/MCB software v4.52 or later and LPC software v4.48 or later. Use Vigilon Commissioning Tool v1.32 or later for device setting changes. Nano configuration uses Nano Commissioning Tool v3.0 or later. Verify the system design with the Gent Battery Standby and Loop Load calculator.

FAQs
What visual alarm coverage does S4-720-V-VAD-HPR provide?
At High, the S4-720-V-VAD-HPR gives C-3-14 ceiling coverage, equal to 461.8 m³. Medium gives C-3-13 and Low gives C-3-10. The open categories are O-4.5-14 at High and O-4-13 at Medium. In a C rating, the two numbers give the maximum ceiling height and coverage diameter, both in metres; the covered space is cylindrical. Use a two-second flash interval and the S4-701 base with its IP seal plate. Coverage changes with the selected power setting.
Does S4-720-V-VAD-HPR detect smoke as well as heat?
The S4-720-V-VAD-HPR is a heat detector with a voice sounder and red High Power VAD. It has no optical smoke sensor. Its thermistor provides the heat input, and panel configuration selects the response. Five approved heat classes are available: A1, A2, A2S, B and BS, with A1 as the default. The speech and visual alarm functions provide warnings from the same ceiling position. For dual optical smoke and heat sensing with voice and a red VAD, the corresponding model is S4-711-V-VAD-HPR.
How does S4-720-V-VAD-HPR operate on Nano?
The S4-720-V-VAD-HPR works on a Nano loop, where its VAD is fixed at Low. Its ceiling coverage on Nano is C-3-10. The High and Medium visual alarm settings are therefore unavailable on Nano. Its sensing and voice functions remain part of the device. Configure the Nano system with Nano Commissioning Tool v3.0 or later. Use the S4-701 base and IP seal plate, and keep the visual alarm flash interval at two seconds.
Which panel software and tools are needed for S4-720-V-VAD-HPR?
For S4-720-V-VAD-HPR on Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus, EN 54-23 coverage needs MCC/MCB software v4.52 or later and LPC software v4.48 or later. Use Vigilon Commissioning Tool v1.32 or later for setting changes. Nano configuration uses Nano Commissioning Tool v3.0 or later, and its VAD setting is fixed at Low. Use the two-second flash interval for EN 54-23 operation. Verify the complete system design with the Gent Battery Standby and Loop Load calculator.
How are S4-720-V-VAD-HPR alarm outputs set up and synchronised?
The S4-720-V-VAD-HPR voice sounder and VAD outputs synchronise with compatible devices across all loops belonging to the same panel. Synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels. The red VAD uses a two-second flash interval for EN 54-23 operation. The sounder provides speech preceded by an attention tone, as well as tone signals. On Nano, this VAD operates at Low with C-3-10 ceiling coverage. Fit the S4-701 base and IP seal plate for IP21C.
