Description
The Gent S4T-770-S combines optical and heat detection with a tone sounder and sensor self-test. It reads smoke at one optical angle and measures heat with a thermistor. The sounder provides intermittent, alternating or continuous tones, with volume set at each device. Self-test uses aerosol to test the smoke chamber and warms the heat element to check its response. A fan then clears the aerosol through the smoke entry points. This white head fits an S4-700 base and takes power from the loop. It belongs to the S-Quad Self-Test range for Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus. Testing uses the CLSS app, a gateway and a Self-Test licence.

Optical self-test generates a controlled amount of paraffin aerosol and uses a fan to move it into the sensing chamber. The panel checks the optical response. The fan then increases airflow to clear the aerosol through the smoke entry points, and the panel checks the fall in readings back to ambient levels. Heat self-test warms the thermistor and checks its response over time.
The S4T sounder function provides intermittent, alternating and continuous tones. Its average output is 85 dBA at 1 m, with a configurable Turbo mode adding 3 dB. Volume is adjustable at each device and must remain at least 65 dBA at 1 m. Soft start raises the sound progressively to the selected level. The sounder circuit is monitored silently for faults. Across the S4T range, outputs in the same sector synchronise across the loops of one panel. Synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.
The head fits the S4-700 base, which requires a metal back box. Use screened two-core fire-rated loop cable with conductors from 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and maintain earth continuity. Supplied with one detector head and one orange dust cover. The cover protects the detector during building work and must be removed before commissioning. The S4T range has IP21C housings measuring 117 mm in diameter and 63 mm high, increasing to 70 mm with the standard base.
The S-Quad Self-Test range operates on Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus systems with compatible firmware, SD-card MCC or MCB hardware and a VIGPLUS-LPC-EN loop card. Self-test requires a CLSS gateway for each network domain, the CLSS mobile app and an active Self-Test licence. Run testing with the panel in Service mode. Configure the system with Vigilon Commissioning Tool V1.40 or later, and calculate the loop load and standby requirement with the Battery Standby and Loop Load Calculator.

How does the S4T-770-S differ from the S4T-771-S?
The S4T-770-S has a single-angle optical smoke sensor, a heat thermistor and a tone sounder. The S4T-771-S uses dual optical angles with heat sensing and a tone sounder. The second optical angle lets the panel compare readings to help distinguish certain smoke aerosols from dust or steam. Both models belong to the Self-Test range, but the S4T-770-S tests one optical channel alongside its heat element. Neither of these two tone sounder models has voice messages or a VAD.
