  • Four mains switching outputsFour relay outputs provide single-pole changeover contacts, COM, NC and NO, on terminal blocks TB1 to TB4. Each output can be assigned to a sector individually and switches a 230V AC resistive circuit.
  • Four monitored inputs, one per output channelEach output channel is accompanied by a monitored low voltage input, all four on terminal block TB5, and the two work at the same time rather than instead of each other. Inputs take normally open or normally closed switch contacts, with normally closed recommended for fail safe applications, and each needs a 10K resistor in series with the contacts plus a 10K end of line resistor, supplied.
  • For mains switching on a Vigilon loopThe S4-34404 provides four mains switching outputs with four monitored inputs. The S4-34401 provides one mains switching output where a single circuit needs switching.
  • Supplied complete with its enclosureNo separate housing is ordered and nothing is assembled. The ABS V-0 rated enclosure is a dark grey back box with a light grey lid, opened with the supplied allen key, 227mm high by 245mm wide by 77mm deep, about 1.1kg assembled, with 7 top and 7 rear 20mm knock-out cable entries and 9 cable earth points. It can be flush mounted to a maximum depth of 48mm.
  • Confirmation function for plant that has to answer backAn input and an output can be paired so that external equipment, a damper control unit for example, acknowledges a signal, and a fault is raised if the expected change of state is not seen within the period predefined for that output. Verbose gives true or false supervisory messages on every change of state as well as the timeout fault; silent gives the timeout fault only. Available across channels 1 to 4.
  • Loop powered, configured with the Gent Commissioning toolThe unit is remotely powered by the control panel via the loop circuit and is given a soft address on loop power up, landing on the device loop at TB6. Input and output circuits are configured individually with the Commissioning tool at V1.28 or higher, with the Main Controller at V4.43 or greater on an EN panel and V3.97 or greater on a BS panel.

Description

The Gent S4-34404 is the four channel mains switching interface for Vigilon panel based fire alarm systems, giving four mains rated relay outputs and four monitored low voltage inputs on the device loop. Each output is a set of single pole change over contacts, COM, NC and NO, on its own terminal block, and each output channel is accompanied by an input, so one unit can operate four circuits and watch four contacts at the same time. Each output can be sectored individually. It takes its power and its address from the device loop, and it is supplied complete with its own enclosure, so there is no separate housing to order.

The S4-34404 has four mains switching relay outputs and four monitored low voltage inputs for a Vigilon device loop. Each output provides single-pole changeover contacts, COM, NC and NO, on its own terminal block, TB1 to TB4. The four inputs connect at TB5. An output and its accompanying input can operate together, allowing the unit to switch four circuits while monitoring four contacts. Each output can be assigned to a sector individually. The relay contacts are rated at 16 A at 250 V.

The relay contacts switch an external 230V AC supply to a resistive load. The interface itself takes power from the control panel through the loop at TB6. Cables carrying more than 48V, both live and neutral, need suitable external fuses. Keep output, input and loop cables as far apart as the installation allows. The S4-34401 provides a single mains switching output where only one circuit needs switching.

Each input accepts normally open or normally closed clean contacts, with normally closed contacts suited to fail-safe applications. Use a 10K resistor in series with the contacts and a 10K end-of-line resistor. The input cable run can be up to 50 metres. Inputs can be configured as fire, fault, supervisory or confirmation inputs, with an acceptance delay to filter brief changes of state.

Confirmation pairs an input with an output to monitor the response of external equipment. The input raises a timeout fault if the expected change of state does not arrive within the configured period. Verbose operation also generates supervisory messages as the input changes state; silent operation gives the timeout fault only. Confirmation modes are available across channels 1 to 4.

Configure the input and output circuits with the Gent Commissioning Tool, version 1.28 or later, before connecting the external circuits. Set unused channels to unused. EN panels need Main Controller V4.43 or later and Loop Processor V4.41 or later; BS panels need V3.97 or later on both. Output terminal order is COM, NC, NO on units made after September 2013 and NO, COM, NC on units made before that date. Follow the markings on the fitted terminal blocks.

The unit comes assembled in an ABS V-0 enclosure with a dark grey back box and light grey lid. Eight 10K resistors, one Allen key and seven cable-entry bungs are supplied. It measures 227mm high by 245mm wide by 77mm deep and weighs about 1.1kg. The enclosure has seven top and seven rear 20mm cable entries, nine cable earth points and channel labels inside and outside the door. Flush mounting allows a depth of up to 48mm in a 210mm by 233mm aperture. The mains interface pair operates from -10°C to +60°C, with storage from -20°C to +70°C and up to 95% non-condensing relative humidity at +5°C to +45°C.

FAQs

Can the S4-34404 use all four outputs and all four inputs at the same time?

Yes. Each of the four output channels has an accompanying monitored low voltage input, with separate terminals for the two circuits. The relay outputs connect at TB1 to TB4 and the inputs at TB5. Output-and-fire, output-and-fault and output-and-supervisory modes allow both functions to operate together on channels 1 to 4. Set unused channels to unused. Configuration uses the Gent Commissioning Tool at V1.28 or later and must be completed before connecting the external circuits.

How is the S4-34404 powered and protected?

The interface takes its operating power from the Vigilon device loop at TB6. Its four relay outputs provide changeover contacts, with COM, NC and NO on terminal blocks TB1 to TB4. All cables carrying more than 48V, both live and neutral, need suitable external fuses. Keep the output, input and loop cables as far apart as the installation allows. The unit comes assembled in an ABS enclosure with cable earth points and top and rear cable entries.

Does the terminal order on the S4-34404 outputs vary between units?

Yes. Units made after September 2013 use COM, NC, NO on each output terminal block. Units made before that date use NO, COM, NC. Output channels 1 to 4 connect at TB1 to TB4, with the four monitored inputs on the separate TB5 block. Follow the markings on the fitted blocks when making the connections. Configure all channels before connecting external circuits and keep the output, input and loop cables as far apart as the installation allows.

What enclosure and mounting options come with the S4-34404?

The S4-34404 comes assembled in an ABS V-0 enclosure with a dark grey back box and light grey lid. It measures 227mm high by 245mm wide by 77mm deep and weighs about 1.1kg. The enclosure has seven top and seven rear 20mm cable entries, plus nine cable earth points. Flush mounting allows a depth of up to 48mm in an aperture 210mm high by 233mm wide. One Allen key for opening the lid, eight 10K resistors and seven cable-entry bungs are supplied.

What does the confirmation function on the S4-34404 do?

It pairs an input with an output so that the plant being operated answers back. External equipment, a damper control unit for example, acknowledges the signal from the interface, and the confirmation input raises a fault if the expected change of state is not seen within the period predefined for that output. Set to verbose, it also generates true or false supervisory messages on every input change of state; set to silent, it gives the timeout fault only. It applies across channels 1 to 4.
