- One mains rated changeover outputOne relay output provides single-pole changeover contacts, COM1, NC1 and NO1, at TB1 for switching a 230V AC resistive circuit. The output uses channel 1 in every mode that includes an output.
- Four monitored low voltage inputsChannels 1 to 4 connect at TB5. Each accepts normally open or normally closed clean contacts with a 10K series resistor and a 10K end-of-line resistor over up to 50 metres. Normally closed contacts suit fail-safe applications. All four inputs require Commissioning Tool V1.28 or later.
- Inputs programmable as fire, fault, supervisory or confirmationEach input can be programmed as a fire, fault, supervisory or confirmation input, with a configurable delay to filter noise or a spurious signal while the switch changes over. The confirmation input can carry an additional longer delay before an input is accepted.
- Confirmation pairing for plant that answers backAn input and an output can be paired so external equipment, a damper control unit for example, acknowledges the signal it was sent. A fault is raised if the expected change of state is not seen within the period predefined for that output. Verbose reporting adds a true or false supervisory message on every change of state; silent gives the timeout fault only.
- Channel 1 can be configured as a zone inputChannel 1 on the S4-34401 can be configured as a zone input.
- Supplied complete with its enclosure, loop poweredAn ABS V-0 rated case, dark grey back box with a light grey lid, 227 x 245 x 77mm at about 1.1kg, with no separate enclosure to order. The unit is remotely powered by the control panel through the loop circuit, wired to the device loop at TB6, and takes a soft address on loop power up.
Description
The Gent S4-34401 is the single channel mains switching interface unit, which puts one mains rated changeover output on the device loop of a Vigilon panel based system so the fire alarm can switch a 230V circuit directly. The output is a set of single pole change over contacts, COM1, NC1 and NO1, on terminal block TB1, and the unit also carries four monitored low voltage inputs on TB5 for watching external equipment or taking a confirmation signal back from it. It is remotely powered by the control panel through the loop, takes its address from the loop, and is supplied complete with its own enclosure, so there is no separate box to order.
The S4-34401 provides one mains switching relay output for a Vigilon device loop. Its single-pole changeover contacts, COM1, NC1 and NO1, connect at TB1. The output uses channel 1 in every mode that includes an output and switches an external 230V AC supply to a resistive load. The interface takes its own power from the control panel through the loop at TB6. Cables carrying more than 48V, both live and neutral, need suitable external fuses. The relay contacts are rated at 16 A at 250 V.

Four monitored low voltage inputs connect at TB5 when configured with the Gent Commissioning Tool, version 1.28 or later. Each accepts normally open or normally closed clean contacts, with normally closed contacts suited to fail-safe applications. Use a 10K resistor in series with the contacts and a 10K end-of-line resistor over a cable run of up to 50 metres. Each input can be configured as fire, fault, supervisory or confirmation, with an acceptance delay to filter brief changes of state.
A confirmation input monitors the response of equipment controlled by the relay. It raises a timeout fault if the expected change of state does not arrive within the configured period. Verbose operation also generates supervisory messages as the input changes state; silent operation gives the timeout fault only. Channel 1 can alternatively be configured as a zone input.
The unit has one output, so it switches one mains circuit. Its four inputs do not add further outputs. The S4-34404 provides four mains switching outputs and four monitored inputs where several circuits need to be controlled at one location. For low voltage switching, the S4-34420 provides a changeover relay with one input, while the S4-34450 provides four configurable input or output channels.
Configure all channels with the Gent Commissioning Tool, version 1.28 or later, before connecting the external circuits. Set unused channels to unused. EN panels need Main Controller V4.43 or later and Loop Processor V4.41 or later; BS panels need V3.97 or later on both. Output terminal order is COM, NC, NO on units made after September 2013 and NO, COM, NC on units made before that date. Follow the markings on the fitted terminal block and keep output, input and loop cables as far apart as the installation allows.
The unit comes assembled in an ABS V-0 enclosure with a dark grey back box and light grey lid. Eight 10K resistors, one Allen key and seven cable-entry bungs are supplied. It measures 227mm high by 245mm wide by 77mm deep and weighs about 1.1kg. There are seven top and seven rear 20mm cable entries, nine cable earth points and channel labels inside and outside the door. Flush mounting allows a depth of up to 48mm in a 210mm by 233mm aperture. The mains interface pair operates from -10°C to +60°C, with storage from -20°C to +70°C and up to 95% non-condensing relative humidity at +5°C to +45°C.

FAQs
What connections does the S4-34401 provide?
The S4-34401 has one mains switching relay output and four monitored low voltage inputs. Its changeover relay brings out COM1, NC1 and NO1 at TB1 and switches a 230V AC resistive circuit. The four inputs connect at TB5 and accept normally open or normally closed clean contacts. All four inputs require Commissioning Tool V1.28 or later. The unit takes its power from the device loop at TB6 and comes assembled in its own enclosure.
How many mains circuits will one S4-34401 switch?
One. The relay on TB1 provides a single set of changeover contacts, and the output uses channel 1 in every mode that includes an output. The four low voltage inputs monitor contacts independently of that relay; they do not provide additional switching outputs. For four mains circuits at one location, the S4-34404 provides four changeover outputs and four monitored inputs in one enclosure. Both interface types take their operating power from the Vigilon device loop.
How are the S4-34401 inputs wired?
Each input accepts a normally open or normally closed clean contact, with a 10K resistor in series and a 10K end-of-line resistor. The maximum input cable run is 50 metres. Normally closed contacts suit fail-safe applications. With Commissioning Tool V1.28 or later, channels 1 to 4 are available at TB5 and can be configured as fire, fault, supervisory or confirmation inputs. Keep the input, output and loop cables as far apart as the installation allows.
What enclosure and mounting options come with the S4-34401?
The S4-34401 comes assembled in an ABS V-0 enclosure with a dark grey back box and light grey lid. It measures 227mm high by 245mm wide by 77mm deep and weighs about 1.1kg. The enclosure has seven top and seven rear 20mm cable entries, plus nine cable earth points. Flush mounting allows a depth of up to 48mm in an aperture 210mm high by 233mm wide. One Allen key for opening the lid, eight 10K resistors and seven cable-entry bungs are supplied.
Which way round are the output terminals on the S4-34401?
Output terminal order depends on the unit's manufacture date. Units made after September 2013 use COM, NC, NO; units made before that date use NO, COM, NC. On the S4-34401, the relay output connects at TB1 and uses channel 1. Follow the markings on the fitted block when making the connections. Configure the channels before connecting external circuits, keep output wiring separate from input and loop cables, and fit suitable external fuses to cables carrying more than 48V.
