Description

The Gent S3EP-S-R is an IP66 Environmentally Protected wall sounder for outdoor locations and harsh indoor areas, connected to a Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus or Nano device loop. It provides three selectable alarm tones: intermittent at 970Hz, alternating between 730Hz and 970Hz, and continuous at 970Hz. Tone and volume can be adjusted during commissioning, including with the S3-CONTROL infrared remote while the panel is in test mode. The red unit takes power from the loop at 35V to 48V and includes a short circuit isolator. It comes with its head, back box, fitted gasket, earth continuity strap and two securing screws; no visual alarm device is fitted.

The S3EP-S-R is the sounder of Gent's Environmentally Protected S-Cubed Mark 3 range. It is a wall mounted, loop powered audible device for outdoor positions and for internal areas with harsh environments inside a building, and it works on Gent Vigilon Plus, Compact Plus and Nano addressable panels. The part code reads left to right: S3 is Gent's S-Cubed range, EP the Environmentally Protected variant, S the sounder and the trailing R the red body. It is rated IP66 and supplied with its head, back box, fitted gasket, earth continuity strap and two securing screws, with no separate base needed.

The S3EP-S-R provides audible alarms and has no visual alarm device. The sounder meets EN 54-3 and the short circuit isolator meets EN 54-17. Where a job needs visual coverage as well, the EP range carries it on other codes: the S3EP-VAD-HPR-R is the red visual alarm device with no sounder, and the S3EP-V-VAD-HPW-R is the voice sounder with a white flash visual alarm device. It sounds tones; spoken messages are on the range's voice codes.

As a sounder it gives three tones: Signal 1 an intermittent tone at 970Hz plus or minus 10 per cent at 1Hz, Signal 2 an alternating 730Hz and 970Hz tone at 2Hz, and Signal 3 a continuous high tone at 970Hz. The sound level for the sounder is 103dB(A) plus or minus 3dB at 90 degrees at 1m, and the volume is adjustable at commissioning. On a Gent panel the sounders and visual alarm devices are synchronised across all the loops of that panel, and synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.

The unit is loop powered, taking its supply from the device loop at 35V to 48V through loop in and loop out terminals, with the incoming and outgoing loop screens connected to earth. It carries an integral short circuit isolator with EN 54-17 data of Vmax 48V, Vnom 40V, Vmin 24V, VSOmax 16V, VSOmin 8V, ICmax 0.8A, ISmax 1.25A, ILmax 50 microamps and ZCmax 0.13 ohms. The approximate maximum quantity per loop is 200 sounders on tones (dependent on loop load).

The enclosure is rated IP66. Mount the unit on a flat external wall surface with TOP uppermost, use IP66 cable glands at the two top and one bottom knockouts, leave no more than 10cm of tail, and use the top or bottom cable entries to retain IP66 protection. Do not flush mount the base and do not paint the enclosure; two M3 x 10mm screws are supplied.

The device is configured during commissioning to suit the site. Vigilon configuration uses the Vigilon Commissioning Tool at V1.30 or higher. On-site changes through that tool require V1.32 or later with loop software V4.48 or later. Tone and volume can also be adjusted with the S3-CONTROL infrared remote from up to 3m away while the panel is in test mode. Save any volume change at the panel after adjustment.

FAQs

Does the S3EP-S-R have a beacon or strobe?

No. It is the sounder only version of the Environmentally Protected S-Cubed Mark 3 range: a plain red dome with no lens. It has no visual alarm device fitted. The sounder meets EN 54-3, and its integral short circuit isolator meets EN 54-17. If the job needs a visual alarm in the same weatherproof body, the beacon and the voice sounder with beacon are separate codes in the same range.

Which tones does the S3EP-S-R sound, and can the volume be changed on site?

Three tones are held in the unit: an intermittent 970Hz tone at 1Hz, an alternating 730Hz and 970Hz tone at 2Hz, and a continuous 970Hz high tone. The sound level is 103dB(A) plus or minus 3dB at 90 degrees at 1m. The tone and the volume are set at commissioning, either with the Gent commissioning tool or on site with the S3-CONTROL infrared remote with the panel in Test mode.

Do the S3EP-S-R sounders sound in step with each other?

Sounders and visual alarm devices are synchronised across all the loops of one panel, not across a network of panels. The S3EP-S-R provides three tones: an intermittent 970Hz tone at 1Hz, an alternating 730Hz and 970Hz tone at 2Hz, and a continuous 970Hz high tone. Tone and volume are set at commissioning with the Gent commissioning tool or the S3-CONTROL infrared remote control, which operates at up to 3m with the panel in Test mode.

Why can a wall sounder operate unexpectedly during commissioning?

During test or commissioning mode, the infrared receiver in the S-Cubed base is active. Signals from nearby equipment can be mistaken for remote control commands and trigger the sounder. The S3-CONTROL remote also works in this mode, from up to 3m away, to adjust volume or select a tone. The S3EP-S-R has three selectable tones, and a volume change made with the remote must be saved at the panel after adjustment.

How many S3EP-S-R sounders can go on one loop?

The approximate maximum is 200 S3EP-S-R sounders operating on tones per loop, dependent on the loop load. Each unit takes its power from the device loop at 35V to 48V and includes a short circuit isolator. The sounder provides three selectable tones, with tone and volume adjusted during commissioning. S3EP-S-R sounders are synchronised across the loops of one Gent panel; this synchronisation does not extend across a network of panels.
