Overview

What it is and how it fits the system.

The XCL-VEA-CH4-RA is a VESDA Sensepoint XCL aspirated combustible (CAT) gas detector that inserts in-line into a VESDA-E VEA micro bore tube network, measuring 0-100% LEL and factory-calibrated to methane (CH4). It provides 0 to 22 mA analogue output plus two relays, runs on 24V DC nominal and is rated IP65 (Type 4 / NEMA 250) in a 113 x 113 x 59 mm enclosure.

Technical overview

XCL-VEA-CH4-RA is an Xtralis aspirated flammable-gas detector from the VESDA Sensepoint XCL range, designed to sit in-line within the microbore tube network of a VESDA-E VEA system and to report over a 4-20 mA analogue loop with relay signalling. Factory calibration targets methane, while the catalytic sensing element also responds to other combustible gases, hydrogen and propane among them, across a 0 to 100% LEL span.

Fitting into a new or existing VESDA-E VEA installation happens in-line: the housing couples to the network's 6 mm outside-diameter microbore tube through flexible tube connections. A Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth Low Energy) link accepts connection from a compatible smart device running iOS 10 or Android 4.3 or above at up to 10 m, integral LEDs show alarm status at the unit, and the configurable relays and analogue signal tie into fire alarm control panels, PLCs, HVAC plant and building management systems, with VSC and VSM4 integration for remote access to detectors (Modbus).

Approvals take in UL2075 (CO and CH4) and AS 1668.2 alongside EN 50270 for EMC and conformity to EN/UL/IEC61010-1. The XCL-SC-CH4 cartridge replaces the catalytic sensing cell, XCL-FILTER covers filter changes in packs of ten, and XCL-VEA-CH4-RA-5 orders the same detector as a pack of five.
