Description

Installing a VLF MCC into a VLF detector gives an installer more connectivity, more fault detection and monitoring, and fuller annunciation of alarms and faults than the detector offers on its own. Improved connectivity to the fire alarm control panel comes from reporting all four (4) alarm levels on dry relay outputs.

The card is quick and simple to install and works out of the box, with only minimal configuration needed for the extra features. Field wiring is accepted on terminals sized 0.2 - 2.5 mm2 (30-12 AWG), and the card is fully compatible with VESDA VLF smoke detectors.

VIC-020 is the VESDA VLF Multi-function Control Card, an interface card that widens the input and output communications a VLF smoke detector can perform. It adds two relays and an extra General Purpose Input with line monitoring, so that a detector fitted with the card has two GPIs in total and can report all four (4) alarm levels on dry relay outputs to a fire alarm control panel.

Relay 1 is assigned to ALERT and Relay 2 to FIRE-2, each following the latching configuration of the matching VLF status, while the GPI input is assigned to FAULT. On that input an end of line condition reads as no fault, a short is reported as Fault # 115/IFF6 and an open circuit as Fault # 111/IFF8; the end of line resistor is 2.7K Ohm and the relay contacts are rated 2 A at 30 VDC.

Power consumption is 1 W at 24 VDC drawn from the detector, at less than 42 mA. The card weighs 0.08 kg (0.176 lb) and has been tested to -10 to 55°C (14 to 131°F), with relative humidity running from 5% to 95% (non-condensing). It carries AFNOR, CE - EMC and CPR and EN 54-20 approval, and supports VLF-250 and VLF-500.
