Description

The Yuasa NP38-12 is a 12 volt 38 Ah valve-regulated sealed lead-acid battery for standby power in fire, security and emergency systems. This NP series battery has a flame-retardant case and supports float or cyclic use. Its sealed case and terminals prevent electrolyte leakage. A microfine glass mat retains the electrolyte and allows operation in any orientation without reduced output. Oxygen recombination controls gas generation during normal use. If severe overcharge causes gas to build up, the low pressure vent releases the excess gas and automatically reseals. The battery measures 197 x 165 x 170mm and weighs 14.2 kg.

The Yuasa NP38-12 is a 12 volt valve-regulated sealed lead-acid battery in the NP series, for float or cyclic use and standby power in fire, security and emergency systems. This part has a flame-retardant case. Its nominal capacity is 38 Ah at the 20 hour rate to 1.75vpc at 30ºC; 35.3 Ah at the 10 hour rate to 1.75vpc at 20ºC; 32.3 Ah at the 5 hour rate to 1.70vpc at 20ºC; and 22.8 Ah at the 1 hour rate to 1.60vpc at 20ºC.

At the 20 hour rate, energy density is 83 Wh per litre and specific energy is 32 Wh per kilogram. Internal resistance is 7.5 milliohms, maximum discharge current is 300 A and short circuit current is 500 A.

The battery is 197mm long and 165mm wide, with an overall height of 170mm and a weight of 14.2 kg. It has type F terminals, layout 2 and a terminal torque of 2.45 Nm.

The sealed case and terminals prevent electrolyte leakage. A microfine glass mat retains the maximum amount of electrolyte in the cells, allowing operation in any orientation without reduced output or electrolyte leakage. The battery has lead calcium alloy grids. The separators insulate the plates, prevent inter-plate short circuits and prevent active material from shedding.

Oxygen recombination controls gas generation during normal use. If severe overcharge causes gas to build up, the low pressure vent releases excess gas and automatically reseals. The battery requires very little maintenance.

Operating temperatures are −15°C to 50°C during charging and −20°C to 60°C during discharge. Storage temperatures are −20°C to 50°C for a fully charged battery. It can be stored for up to one year at normal ambient temperatures without permanent loss of capacity. Expected float standby service life is five years. Expected cycle life exceeds a thousand discharge/charge cycles, depending on the average depth of discharge.
