Test Wire 100m
uses 251-001 Test Wire (100m) to perform wire-burn test
Overview
What it is and how it fits the system.
The Xtralis VTT-10000-UK is the United Kingdom ordering variant of the VTT-10000 Test Transformer (formerly the Hot Wire Test PSU), used to test very early warning aspirating smoke detection equipment by passing a high current through a test cable to heat it. Accepting 220-240 VAC at 50 Hz or 110-120 VAC at 60 Hz, it delivers a 6 VAC nominal, 20 A output with a selectable burn period of up to 3 minutes, a maximum on-time of 180 seconds and a minimum 7-minute off-time between tests.
Technical overview
VTT-10000-UK is the United Kingdom ordering variant of the Xtralis VTT-10000 test transformer, formerly known as the Hot Wire Test power supply unit and used to test very early warning aspirating smoke detection equipment. The transformer passes a high current through a test cable so that the wire heats, with a burn period selectable to a maximum of 3 minutes.
Protection and timing discipline are built in. An embedded thermal switch guards against over-temperature and blocks extended running whether or not power remains present, while turning the switch off resets the timer, ready to run the set period at the next switch-on. Green and red indicators show at a glance whether the output and its timer are active.
Wire-burn testing uses the 251-001 test wire, a 100 m length of PVC-insulated 10/0.1 mm strand wire matched to the transformer.
Safety approvals cover EN 61558-1:1997 and EN 61558-2-6:1997, with electromagnetic compatibility to EN 50081-1, EN 50082-1 and FCC Part 15 Class A Emissions. As a class A product for emissions, use in domestic surroundings may call for measures against radio interference, and compliant design, installation and commissioning follow the product guide.
