Description

The Gent VS-PSU-RPL is a replacement power supply for older Vigilon and 34000 fire alarm panels and network terminal nodes fitted with short cards. It replaces the panel PSU and includes a battery connection board for the remote battery box. A switch selects the BS or EN panel setting, with EN set at the factory. Battery cables can enter the panel from the top or bottom, and three captive screws secure the PSU in place. The host needs MCC and LPC software at the minimum versions for its BS or EN system. Replacement work includes changing the battery connection board and testing mains and battery fault monitoring.

The VS-PSU-RPL replaces the power supply in a Gent Vigilon or 34000 control panel or network terminal node fitted with short cards. BS systems need MCC software V3.90 or later and LPC V3.84 or later. EN systems need MCC V4.22 or later and LPC V4.19 or later.

The PSU mounts on the existing fixing points and is secured by three captive screws. Two ribbon cables and a terminal-card-to-PSU cable assembly are supplied. Battery cables can enter from the top or bottom of the panel; the top-entry arrangement uses the supplied cable assembly and the terminal card. Switch 1 selects the panel configuration: OFF for a BS panel or ON for an EN panel. EN is the factory setting, and switches 2, 3 and 4 are unused.

The supplied battery connection board replaces the existing thermistor board in the battery enclosure. The filter board on the PSU has B1 and B2 battery terminal groups and TH thermistor terminals. The connection board is the standard arrangement; the supplied leaded thermistor is an alternative where fitting that board is impractical. The battery wiring and connection board are part of the replacement work.

Isolate the mains supplies to the panel, node and any external charger, and disconnect battery power before replacement work. The panel starts after mains power is restored. On completion, test mains and battery fault monitoring and the charging values. Battery float-voltage checks are temperature dependent: about 27.5V at 15°C, 27.3V at 20°C or 27.1V at 25°C.

FAQs

Which panels can use the VS-PSU-RPL?

The VS-PSU-RPL fits Gent Vigilon and 34000 control panels and network terminal nodes that use short cards. The minimum software depends on the panel system: BS installations need MCC V3.90 and LPC V3.84, while EN installations need MCC V4.22 and LPC V4.19. Later software versions meet these minimums. The replacement PSU also has a panel selector: switch 1 is OFF for BS and ON for EN, with EN selected at the factory.

What is supplied with the VS-PSU-RPL?

The pack contains the replacement PSU, a battery connection board and an instruction leaflet. Supplied wiring comprises four battery cable assemblies, two battery link leads with spade connectors, two ribbon cables and a terminal-card-to-PSU cable assembly. It also includes a terminal block, four standoffs, a thermistor lead and two 22kΩ 0.5W resistors. Pack 1 contains four 10A fuses. Pack 2 adds two 10A fuses, two 1A fuses and two 3.15A fuses, one glass and one ceramic.

Does the battery box need work when this PSU is fitted?

Yes. The VS-PSU-RPL conversion includes replacing the existing battery thermistor board with the supplied battery connection board and renewing the internal battery circuit wiring with the supplied cables. The battery connection board is the standard arrangement. A supplied leaded thermistor can be used where installing the board is impractical. The filter board provides separate B1 and B2 battery connections and TH thermistor connections. Battery power stays disconnected during the replacement, and the completed installation needs battery and mains fault-monitoring tests.

What does the BS/EN switch do on the VS-PSU-RPL?

Switch 1 sets the replacement PSU for the panel system in which it is installed. Its OFF position is for a BS panel; its ON position is for an EN panel, and ON is the factory setting. Switches 2, 3 and 4 are unused. This setting sits alongside the host-card requirements: BS systems need MCC V3.90 and LPC V3.84 minimum, while EN systems need MCC V4.22 and LPC V4.19 minimum. The host panel or node must use short cards.

What checks follow installation of the VS-PSU-RPL?

The panel starts when its mains supply is restored after the battery and wiring connections are complete. Completion checks include disconnecting and reconnecting the battery circuits and mains supply to test fault monitoring. The charger ADC reading minus the battery ADC reading should be below five bits. Battery float voltage is temperature dependent: about 27.5V at 15°C, 27.3V at 20°C or 27.1V at 25°C. These checks cover the replacement PSU together with its battery connections and the host panel.
