Description

The Gent SAFE-SS-D-SPARE is a stainless steel double SAFE button with a wiring loom for replacing the switch in an installed system. Its two positions test local alarms in normal conditions and silence them during the initial smoke-alert delay. A red LED marks the silence function and a green LED marks the test function. The switch connects to an S4-34450 interface on a Vigilon Plus or Vigilon Compact Plus system. The cable run from switch to interface is limited to 30m. Area delays are set during commissioning. The switch is 85mm high and 85mm wide, with a depth of 25mm plus the terminal block. Test the local alarms each month in normal conditions.

The SAFE-SS-D-SPARE replaces the stainless steel double SAFE switch and includes its wiring loom. It connects to the S4-34450 interface used for the alarm area. The interface is a separate part from the replacement switch and loom.

The SAFE-SS-D-SPARE replaces the stainless steel double SAFE switch and includes its wiring loom. It connects to the S4-34450 interface used for the alarm area. The interface is a separate part from the replacement switch and loom.

In normal conditions, hold the switch upwards until the green LED lights to test the local alarms. During the initial smoke-alert delay, hold it downwards until the red LED lights to silence the area alarms. Interface channel 1 handles silence, channel 2 handles test, channel 3 drives the red LED and channel 4 drives the green LED. During normal conditions, the silence control can also disable area smoke detection for a default period of 15 minutes.

The SAFE range works with Vigilon Plus and Vigilon Compact Plus panels with MCC or MCB software V4.57 minimum and LPC software V4.52 minimum. Configure the area and interface with Commissioning Tool V1.34. Where a printer connects through an IOC, that card needs V4.16 minimum; loop repeat and mimic panels require MRC software V1.09 minimum. Area delays and extensions are set as part of commissioning.

Keep the switch-to-interface cable run within 30m. The button measures 85mm high by 85mm wide, with a depth of 25mm plus the terminal block. Allow enough backbox depth for the assembly and secure all terminal connections. Tighten the fixing screws without a powered screwdriver and do not apply an insulation tester to the switch. Test the area alarms monthly and clean the switch with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.

FAQs

What is supplied with SAFE-SS-D-SPARE?

SAFE-SS-D-SPARE includes a switch and wiring loom. It is the replacement for the stainless steel double switch used in the corresponding SAFE kit. The switch operates through an S4-34450 interface, which connects it to the alarm system. Its two positions provide local alarm silence and test control. The switch-to-interface cable run is limited to 30m. Area settings and the assignment of the interface to that area form part of the commissioned system.

How does SAFE-SS-D-SPARE silence local alarms?

During the initial smoke-alert delay, hold the switch down until the red LED lights, then release it. This silences alarms in its assigned area. Delay periods and permitted extensions depend on the commissioned area settings. Near the end of the delay, the red LED flashes and the alert sounds; another press can extend the delay where configured. If smoke remains when the allowed delay expires, evacuation alarms follow the system cause and effect.

How do I test the alarms with SAFE-SS-D-SPARE?

Test SAFE-SS-D-SPARE while the system is in its normal condition. Press the upper test position and hold it until the green LED lights and the area alarms sound. Release the button when the test is complete; the alarms continue for five seconds before stopping and the green LED turns off. Carry out this area alarm test monthly. The lower position operates the silence function, using the red LED, so the two positions have separate controls and indications.

How is SAFE-SS-D-SPARE connected and mounted?

SAFE-SS-D-SPARE connects to an S4-34450 interface over a cable run of up to 30m. Channels 1 and 2 handle silence and test, while channels 3 and 4 drive the red and green LEDs. The switch is 85mm high and 85mm wide, with a depth of 25mm plus its terminal block. Allow sufficient backbox depth, secure the wire connections and tighten the fixing screws without a powered screwdriver. Do not apply an insulation tester to the switch.

Can SAFE-SS-D-SPARE disable area smoke detection before an alarm?

In normal conditions, SAFE-SS-D-SPARE can disable area smoke detection using its lower silence position. Hold that position until the red LED lights, then release it. The default disablement period is 15 minutes, with the duration set during commissioning. Before the red LED starts flashing, press and hold the silence control until the LED goes out to restore smoke detection. Near the end of the period, the flashing red LED warns that detection is about to resume; a further extension depends on the configured settings.
