Description

Bringing a normally open contact device onto an intelligent two-wire loop is what M501MEA does, and the module is intended to be wired and mounted without rigid connections inside a standard electrical box.

Where rigid mounting is required, it may be affixed within the enclosure using cable ties and, where necessary, suitable adhesive or screw type cable tie bases; the testing and the approval were carried out with the rigid installation. The module should be mounted flat, ensuring that it does not foul any other equipment in the enclosure, and care must be taken to ensure wires are not damaged during the installation. Its reporting duty is bounded: information linked to a fire signal is relayed to the control panel, while the secondary line is not monitored for short circuit faults. On the monitoring line, 47K Ohms is the end of line value for standard use, the other resistors being for special use only. M501MEA is an addressable monitor module for intelligent, two-wire systems, providing a two-wire initiating circuit for normally open contact fire alarm and security devices. The individual address of each module is selected using rotary decade switches. The module serves only to relay information linked to a fire signal to the control panel and does not monitor the secondary line for short circuit faults, and to work properly it should only be connected to a compatible control panel.

Nominal operating voltage on the communications loop is 15-32 VDC. Average operating current is 400 µA at one communication every 5 seconds with the standard 47K EOL, and the maximum alarm current is 600 µA. On the monitoring line the standard end of line resistance is 47K Ohms, wiring resistance is limited to 1.5K Ohms, maximum voltage to the end of line is 11 Volts and maximum short circuit current is 217 µA.

Physically the module is 33mm H x 71mm W x 15mm D with a 150mm minimum wire length, small and light enough to be installed without rigid mounting in a single gang junction box directly behind the monitored unit.
